Irish dance star Seán Curran, whose career began with classes as a child living in Watertown, returns to the area for a dance concert Dec 6 and 7. This will be the first time his with his internationally acclaimed company has performed in the region since 2007. See more details in the announcement from Seán Curran Company, below

Representing two generations of dance innovators and collaborators with roots in the Boston area, the New York City-based Seán Curran Company (which last performed in Boston in 2007) and Decent Dance in Worcester, Mass., come together for THROUGH LINES, a dynamic evening-length performance that marks the creative threads linking artists across time and geography.

Presented by The Dance Complex in Cambridge’s Central Square on December 6 and 7, THROUGH LINES combines four distinctive yet connected choreographic voices in one evening: Seán Curran (above), Tony Guglietti and Kristin Wagner (below) and Brian Feigenbaum. The performance celebrates a creative lineage shared by Curran, Feigenbaum and Guglietti, all three alumni of the NYU Tisch School of the Arts.

Together, these artists trace a living map of influence and friendship through dance, an intergenerational web connecting classrooms, rehearsal studios, and stages from New York to Boston and beyond. A former student of Feigenbaum’s at Lawrence Academy and a founding member of Seán Curran Company, Guglietti now co-directs Decent Dance with longtime collaborator Kristin Wagner, herself a Feigenbaum protégé, a regional dance entrepreneur, and Guglietti’s artistic and life partner. Feigenbaum recently retired as Lawrence Academy’s Director of Dance and Guglietti has succeeded him in the role.

For Curran, a Boston native, THROUGH LINES marks a homecoming. His international career is rooted in his Irish Step classes as a youth at the former Joy of Movement Center (now The Dance Complex) which ignited his dance passion and his long career as a globally recognized choreographer and educator.

As Decent Dance, Guglietti and Wagner create contemporary narrative dances with wit and truth. As producers of THROUGH LINES, the pair honors their own longtime relationship and the interrelationships that led the group to continued success.

Guest artist Brian Feigenbaum has spent nearly five decades shaping Boston’s modern dance landscape—as a performer, choreographer, and longtime Director of Dance at Lawrence Academy, where he inspired generations of young artists. His legacy includes mentoring emerging choreographers and leading student ensembles to acclaimed performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and beyond.

Dance Complex Executive Artistic Director Peter DiMuro says THROUGH LINES debunks the notion of lineage as a singular pathway “from then to now.” “Seán’s return to The Dance Complex and the interwoven lives of Tony, Kristin and Brian gives us a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the abundant creativity from each artist, and proves that the effect of relationships like these can sprout in all directions. That they have chosen to share this with us here is an honor,” he says. “I’m so pleased to welcome them all back.”

  • PrologueDecent Dance (2025) – Co-choreographed by Tony Guglietti and Brian Feigenbaum, this dance reunites – and recounts the story of – the men who first met when Feigenbaum was Lawrence Academy Director of Dance and Guglietti was a student there. Earlier this year, Feigenbaum retired and passed the Director role to Guglietti.
  • 1 Plus 1 Makes 3 – Decent Dance (2024) – This tender, witty duet reflects on early parenthood and the transformation of two becoming three. Choreography by Tony Guglietti and Kristin Wagner
  • Loom – Decent Dance (Premiere) – Inspired by the art of weaving, and co-choreographed by Wagner and Guglietti, Loom is Decent Dance’s first ensemble work: a group dance that explores entanglements and connections, both physical and emotional.
  • PATH – Seán Curran Company (2024) – Sean Curran’s newest long-form group dance, set to

Joby Talbot’s 2005 choral composition, Path of Miracles, reflects on spiritual and artistic journeys through the lens of the Catholic pilgrimage known as Camino de Santiago.

Of his piece Curran says, “Artists and spiritual seekers alike are searching for purpose. Whether we find it or not, we are transformed by the journey. My life as an artist has forged a path toward self-acceptance and personal transformation. PATH is a prayer, of sorts, for my former self: a pious child who became a gay teen excluded from religion.  It’s a requiem for my Irish Catholic parents, whose faith never wavered, which I never understood.”
