Police Log: Fraudulent Pop-Up on Laptop, Driver Faces OUI Charge, Suspect Seen Trying to Enter Parked Vehicles

The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Police Department.

Dec. 15: A package containing a suitcase was taken from the front porch of a home on Commonwealth Road. The value of the suitcase was $310.

Dec. 15: An Uber Eats driver was preparing to make a delivery when she got a call advising the driver to cancel the delivery and instead provided the driver with an incentive offer. A short time later, she saw that her Uber Eats MasterCard had two unauthorized charges for a total of $5,138.

Dec. 15: A Franklin Street resident was notified by Bank of America about fraudulent activity on a credit card. Someone had purchased two Traeger pellet smokers, totaling $3,257, and they were sent to an address in Calexico, California. Police are investigating.

Dec. 15: Two juvenile girls were stopped at Target after they were seen shoplifting. One took $104 in merchandise, and the other $62. The items were returned to the store and the juveniles were handed over to their parents.

Dec. 16: Fraudulent credit card charges were discovered by an Arlington Street resident. The charges were for $294 and $247.

Dec. 16: Two women went into Carter’s and took a shopping cart load of items worth $700. They left without paying.

Dec. 16: The owner of a Toyota Prius parked in a Robbins Road driveway and when the owner came back all four tires were flat and had cut marks on the side walls.

Dec. 16: A woman took a $105 Razor electric scooter from Target.

Dec. 17: A box truck pulled up at a building on Coolidge Avenue and filled a dumpster with old cabinets and other items that appeared to be from the demolition of a home kitchen.

Dec. 17: A woman took $151 worth of merchandise from Target.

Dec. 17: A man went into Nike, took off his shoes and put on a new pair of 96 Air Max shoes. He walked out with the new shoes on and left his shoes in the box. The shoes were priced at $120.

Dec. 17: A man and a woman went into Target and took five items with a total value of $230.

Dec. 18: A Laurel Street resident spotted a man pulling on the car doors. The man was seen leaning into cars. Police were called but the man was gone before they arrived. A Milwaukee drill and Skil saw were missing from one of the vehicles.

Dec. 18: A woman was using her laptop when a pop up appeared on the screen which looked like it was from Watertown Savings. When she clicked on it, the woman spoke to a man who said he worked for the bank’s security department. He said her account had been compromised. She provided account information and later received a notice saying her account had been accessed and more than $6,000 was withdrawn. Police are investigating.

Dec. 18: A truck dumped a queen size box spring on the sidewalk on Maple Street.

Dec. 19: A Fayette Street resident received a report from a credit monitoring service saying someone had opened a $6,800 education loan in Lynchburg, Virginia, in the resident’s name.

Dec. 19: A woman concealed $300 worth of merchandise at Target and left without paying.

Dec. 19: Police officers had responded to a prior shoplifting, when store security alerted them that two people were switching tags on items for tags from lower priced merchandise. A man and a woman were summoned to Waltham District Court for shoplifting.

Dec. 20: An officer on Mt. Auburn Street spotted a vehicle speeding at 2:30 a.m. Officer Don Pham turned on the cruiser and clocked the vehicle at 56 mph. The vehicle was stopped at Mt. Auburn and Irving streets. The driver smelled of alcohol. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and Valeria Aedo Figueroa, 27, of Waltham, was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.

Dec. 20: A man filled a shopping cart with items at Stop & Shop on Pleasant Street and tried to leave without paying. He was confronted and the cart was recovered, but the man fled the area before police arrived. The cart contained more than $3,000 worth of over-the-counter medication.

Dec. 20: A woman took $92 worth of electronics, groceries, and toys from Target.
