High School students can apply for the “Business of Music” internship created by the City of Watertown’s Public Arts & Culture program and the Watertown Fine & Performing Arts. See details below.

The City of Watertown’s Public Arts & Culture program, in partnership with Watertown Fine & Performing Arts (WFPA), invites local high school students to apply for the 2026 “Business of Music” Internship.

Specifically designed for Watertown students entering grades 10 through 12, this program pulls back the curtain on the professional music world. Moving beyond performance, the internship focuses on the essential “behind-the-scenes” mechanics — industry economics, event production, and the administrative strategy required to sustain a thriving arts ecosystem.

“This partnership between Public Arts & Culture and WFPA allows us to offer students a unique, career-focused lens on the arts,” said Liz Helfer, Public Arts & Culture Planner. “We’re not just teaching them how to play music; we’re teaching them how the music industry actually works, right here in their own community.”

Students will work with city staff and arts professionals to understand the logistics of public cultural programming. Interns will gain insights into marketing, legal permitting, and the financial structures of the performing arts.

The program is exclusively open to Watertown high school students who will be in grades 10-12 this coming fall. Interns who complete the program will receive a $200 stipend.

Prospective interns can view the full program requirements and submit their applications via the City’s digital portal: https://watertownma.viewpointcloud.com/categories/1085
