Have you heard of Galentine’s Day? Feb. 13th is now a day to celebrate women’s friendships, and in town you can take your friends to a Galentine doughnut decorating party at Blackbird Doughnuts. Fun! This is the week of the winter Olympics, and the library is offering a place to watch with others on a few days this week including Friday afternoon. Permission is granted to loudly cheer on your favorite athletes in the otherwise quiet library. The Actor’s Shakespeare Project has an ongoing play of “Little Women” at the Mosesian this month with performances this weekend on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I love that we have a theatre company in residence at the Mosesian again. There are a number of great restaurants in town celebrating Valentine’s Day. I am drawn to the Condesa Restaurante’s special cocktails and the five course Aphrodisiac Dinner at Red Lentil. Let’s all eat, drink and be merry with our gal friends, boyfriends, friend friends, partners and spouses.

Join the March family around the hearth as ASP explores one of the most beloved texts in American literature, in a bold new adaptation by Kate Hamill (Emma, The Odyssey, Pride & Prejudice).

In the Victorian-era idylls of Concord, Jo March is anything but your classic Victorian heroine. Ambitious and headstrong, her dreams of being a novelist press against the starchy boundaries of societal expectations. But while her country comes of age as the Civil War rages, Jo and her sisters must also come of age – negotiating gender roles, politics, and romance as they define womanhood on their own terms.

Filled with laughter, love, heaps of New England charm, and sharp social commentary, Hamill’s adaptation celebrates the novel’s spirit while boldly reclaiming it for today’s world. This clever and empowering production of Little Women is perfect for all ages.
