A mini-golf fundraiser will be held April 18 in memory of Thomas Tsekrekas and the proceeds will benefit brain cancer research.
The second annual Indoor Miniature Golf Fundraiser is being organized by Thomas’ son Jimmy, and the Watertown AHEPA Chapter 406. It will take place on Saturday, April 18, from noon to 4 p.m. at the Watertown Greek Church, 25 Bigelow Ave.
“We gather to honor the legacy of our past President Thomas Tsekrekas, who was a pillar of strength, a friend to all, and a man whose kindness left a lasting mark on every life he touched. May his Memory be Eternal. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Brain Cancer Research, continuing the fight in Thomas’ name and offering hope to families facing this difficult journey,” the event announcement said.
Thomas was a longtime resident and business owner in Watertown after arriving from Greece.
“My parents made hand sewn varsity jackets for high school students for 45 years,” Jimmy said. “So if you had one, my parents very skillfully made it.”
When Thomas was diagnosed with Glioblastoma brain cancer, he was given a 10-month timeline.
“Through his immense positivity and the Greek spirit of Philotimo (the love of others), he defied those odds to give us three beautiful years,” Jimmy said. “We are continuing to turn that strength of Hope into a ‘community triumph,’ raising vital funds for Brain Cancer Research.”
The goal for this year’s event is to expand the group’s reach.
“The event is designed for all ages, from Watertown’s youth to our seniors, bringing the neighborhood together for a day of joy and purpose,” Jimmy said.
Admission costs: Kids 12 and under are FREE, $9 for Teens and $18 for Adults.
“So it’s a perfect affordable Fun-Family event, with Greek and American food, ice cream, prizes and raffles,” Jimmy added.
