Watertown City Manager George Proakis gave his second Preliminary Budget Overview on Tuesday. City officials got some unexpected good news from taxes generated by new development in the current fiscal year, but City Manager George Proakis said he remains cautious about the good financial times continuing. Tuesday night, Proakis updated the City Council about the current year’s budget, Fiscal Year 2024, and presented the Fiscal 2025 Preliminary Budget Overview. The revenues in FY24 came in $5.3 million above the projection when the budget was made last spring. However, the current bottom line for next year’s Watertown budget (FY25) is a $2.4 million shortfall.

Sept. 25, 10 a.m.: A man and woman walked into Nike on Sept. 21 at about 7:30 p.m. The woman began grabbing clothing, while the man took a shoe box off the shelf along with other items, and they walked out of the store without paying. The merchandise was valued at $542.

On Wednesday, Oct. 11, Watertown Cable News, Watertown Cable Access Corp and Watertown News will host an election forum featuring the two candidates running for City Council President. Incumbent Mark Sideris is being challenged by former Town Council President Clyde Younger.

Last week, a line of people snaked around the aisles of Gordon’s Fine Wine and Liquor in Watertown. They eagerly awaited the entrance of the man after whom the drink they were purchasing was named. Jon Taffer arrived shortly after 6 p.m, and was greeted by a fellow TV personality, Jason Santos, when he stepped through the doors of the store inside Arsenal Yards. Santos also owns Buttermilk & Bourbon in Arsenal Yards.
The Watertown Business Coalition announced its latest coffee connect will be held at the Watertown Police Department, and feature West Side City Councilor Emily Izzo. The event will be on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 8:30 a.m. in the Community Room at the Police Station, 552 Main St., Watertown. The Watertown Business Coalition announced:
