Mid-Week Nor’Easter Could Drop Half a Foot of Snow on Area

The second Nor’easter in less than a week could drop as much as 6 inches of snow on the Watertown area. The National Weather Services issued a Winter Storm Watch from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, 2018, to 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 8. Snow will start falling lightly in the morning and the heaviest snowfall will be on Wednesday night, according to WHDH Channel 7’s forecast. Watertown is near the line between the 3-6 inches and 7-12 inches of snowfall on WHDH’s snow forecast map. Winds will not be as intense as Friday’s storm, which cause damage in Watertown including bringing down several utility poles on Arsenal Street and knocked down trees.

Trees Fall on Homes, Several Utility Poles Fall Arsenal St. During Storm

A tree fell on a Watertown home and Watertown Police closed Arsenal Street for a time after several utility poles fell during the Nor’easter that hit the area Friday. The tree fell on and struck a home on Bellevue Avenue, about 2:45 p.m. Friday afternoon. The tree also pulled up some blocks of sidewalk concrete when it fell, according to scanner reports. Another tree fell onto a home on Oliver Street at about 4:30 p.m., according to scanners. A telephone pole came down near the Watertown Boys & Girls Club at about 2:45 p.m. It damaged a fence near the clubhouse, but was moved out of the way at about 3:05 p.m. according to the scanner.

Conservation Commission to Hear About Studies of Whitney Hill Park’s Plant, Animal Life; More Info from Annual Report

The annual report on Watertown’s last piece of wooded land, Whitney Hill Park, recommends continuing to study the trees and animals on the land. The report will be discussed by the Conservation Commission on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 7 p.m. at the Lower Hearing Room in Town Hall, 149 Main St., Watertown. Activities in 2017

Several studies of Whitney Hill took place last year, looking at the plants, animals and more. Data about the lower woody vegetation (which includes saplings and shrubs) on Whitney Hill have been digitized by ConCom member Patrick Fairbairn. This will be used as a baseline to track future changes of the hill.
