WEEKEND FUN: Classic Cars, Crafting, Meditation, Classic Radio Play & Cribbage

You can start this beautiful summer weekend with a contemplative sound healing meditation on Friday evening at Mount Auburn Cemetery. It’s going to be cooler, though rain could interfere in that plan. If so, you might go instead to catch an entertaining radio mystery at the Mosesian that evening or on Saturday night. They promise hijinks and cocktails, a delicious combination! As a person who loves to share resources in our Facebook Buy Nothing group, the arts and crafts swap on Saturday afternoon at the library is a draw.

WEEKEND FUN: Meet Big League Brian, Reading Block Party, Japanese Fest, Poetry Catch the Euro Final

Are you and your family Red Sox fans? Or need I ask? Then you might want to meet Big League Brian, a 10’ tall stilt walking fixture outside Fenway. He’ll be visiting Sullivan Tire and would love to pose with all local Sox fans. After getting some good shots (for your holiday cards?), check out the Japanese Summer Festival at the Circle of Boston Nursery School to get a taste of Japanese culture, games and food.

WEEKEND FUN: ABBA Spectacle, Yoga, Plant Swap, Album Release, Italian Dinner

Your weekend might kick off on Friday evening with a lively show at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, called Gimme Gimme. It is described as a sapphic ABBA disco spectacle, including burlesque, drag and aerial performances. Wake up on Saturday, have a relaxing morning and then head over to Artemis Yoga if you have a handy young person to do yoga play with. Their family yoga hour looks quite fun. Once well stretched out, check out the plant and seed swap on the library patio.

WEEKEND FUN: Jane Austen Garden Party, Superman, Art Reception, New Look Park, Craft Night

Arsenal Park

Let’s all go to Arsenal Park this weekend, or at least sometime soon to discover the newly renovated facilities. It provides residents of Watertown with a wonderful outdoor area for summer activities. I might even join the kids in the splash park on a hot day! But to start the weekend, on Friday evening the Hatch Maker Space has an LGBTQ+ drop-in time. It’s open for teens and adults. Saturday evening you could get your thrills watching the new Superman staring David Corenswet at the Majestic 7.

WEEKEND FUN: Greek Festival, Summer SOLSTICE, Children’s Book Author, Concert, Tantra Speed Dating

This Friday, the most happening day of the weekend, you can start the morning with a Creative Chat at the Mosesian, for anyone involved in the arts, and end the day with a classical voice and piano benefit concert at First Parish Church or at a Tantra Speed Date event. Once you have found your date, take them to the Solstice events at Mount Auburn Cemetery on Saturday. All day there will be organized walks, craft workshops, a wide variety of music performances, a sound meditation, and a poetry reading. Some activities are free and some are paid, so be sure to take a careful look at the whole schedule and register as needed. The Greek Festival will be on all weekend.

WEEKEND FUN: Art, Music, Dancing, Writing & Tour the 2 Oldest Homes in Town

I suggest you start off the weekend on Friday afternoon at the Armenian Museum of America to see their current exhibit of art by Varujan Boghosian. What an interesting mix of media he uses, including painting and collage! A Saturday morning trip to the Revival Café will not only include the requisite espresso or tea drinks, but also some music played by Jamie Kallestad, a local folk musician. If you’re feeling more contemplative than social Saturday morning, try out the Morning Writes workshop at Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

WEEKEND FUN: Armenian Festival, Concerts, Games, Apps Happy Hour

While most of the fun in town takes place on Saturday, happy hour at City Works comes with half price bar bites every workday, so why not start your weekend with a few fried pickles and some popcorn chicken? Saturday afternoon there is a board game social at Deaf, Inc. which is open to all who love some table-top dice thowing, card playing or bingo card dabbing. Saturday night there is a concert at First Parish Church called Hub of the Musiverse 4. Even the name of the concert is interesting! For those with young children, take them to the Mosesian to be inspired to sing like whoever-their-favorite-singer is for a Watertown Children’s Theatre vocal concert.

Weekend Fun: Bike Event Canceled, Watertown Pride, Yoga, Homebrewers & Martial Arts

UPDATE: City officials announced the Get Out Your Bike event has been canceled due to the forecast rain on Saturday. Let’s start the weekend at the Get Out Your Bike Event at the dock on the Charles River on Saturday morning. If you haven’t gotten out your bike yet, now is the time. You can have it checked for free or learn about Blue Bikes if you don’t have your own. In the afternoon you can exercise further with a Family Yoga class at Artemis Yoga.
