The Office of Senator Will Brownsberger is accepting applications for part-time, unpaid internships for the summer of 2024. Internships are reserved for residents of the Suffolk and Middlesex District. Applications are due Monday, April 8, 2024. There are two types of opportunities available:

General Office Internships are designed for applicants in the early stages of exploring policymaking and government who are seeking opportunities to learn more and refine their interests. Legislative Internships are designed for those who have already gained some experience and are looking to delve deeper into a topic of interest.

Save the Date: Next Watertown Square Area Plan Public Forum

The following information was provided by the City of Watertown:

The Watertown Square Area Plan project team invites you to attend our next Public Forum on Thursday, April 4, 2024, beginning 6:30 p.m. at 66 Galen St., Watertown, MA 02472 (note different location than previous public meetings). If you plan on attending the public forum in person, please RSVP so we can properly prepare the venue. 

During this public forum, the project team will present feedback from the previous public meeting (which you can rewatch here: http://vodwcatv.org/CablecastPublicSite/show/3049?site=3), and introduce a proposed design scheme to move to next steps. 

More details on what to expect at this forum will be shared in the coming weeks. If you are unable to attend in person, a broadcast link will be shared in the coming weeks to view the discussion online.

Public Invited to Tour New Watertown Cable Studios

The entire Watertown community is invited to come tour WCA-TV’s brand new studio! Watertown Cable Access Corp. (WCA-TV) has officially opened its doors to the public after several months of renovation and relocation from Watertown High School. On April 11th from 4 p.m.-7 p.m., WCA-TV will host a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony at its new location at 30 Common Street inside the Phillips Administration building. “We’re so excited to finally be able to welcome the Watertown community into our new space,” says Andrea Santopietro, WCA-TV’s Executive Director.

Life Science Companies’ Collaboration With Watertown Schools Will be Featured at Event

The Watertown Business Coalition’s Life Science Panel returns on April 9 at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. See the WBC’s announcement below. The Fourth Annual WBC Life Science Panel this year is called “Learning to Love Science.” This years program will focus on the amazing partnership between Watertown High School and local life science companies, thanks to the hard work of our friend Merle Kummer and the board of “CoLAB.”

CoLAB is a nonprofit organization in Watertown, MA where local life science professionals and high school educators collaborate to inspire student interest in STEM careers – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math – and build new levels of STEM self-confidence. Watertown’s life science cluster continues to be a bigger part of Watertown’s economic growth – and students enrichment should be a part of that growth! WE WOULD LOVE FOR MOMS, DADS, STUDENTS and TEACHERS to join us!

Watertown Schools Received $20K in Grants from Community Foundation & Local Biotechs

The following announcement was provided by the Watertown Community Foundation:

The Watertown Community Foundation (WCF) in collaboration with three Watertown-based life science companies, C4 Therapeutics, Enanta Pharmaceuticals, and Kymera Therapeutics has awarded $20,000 in STEM grants for students in Watertown Public Schools (WPS). This additional funding for STEM initiatives will bring WCF Education grant funding to WPS to an annual high of $55,000 for 2023-2024. Three corporate contributors, C4 Therapeutics, Enanta Pharmaceuticals, and Kymera Therapeutics have contributed $15,000 to the WCF STEM FUND to help bring elementary and high-school students the opportunity to participate in hands-on, science-based learning that expands beyond the classroom experience and the general curriculum. This collective giving program also allows companies, leaders and employees in Watertown’s life-science ecosystem to learn about WPS and forge deeper relationships with the school STEM community. The WCF has committed an additional $5,000 to support this program.

Dr. Ceronne Daly, Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) for the Watertown Public Schools will be the featured speaker at the March 20th monthly meeting of Watertown Citizens for Peace, Justice and the Environment. Dr. Daly will provide an overview of the DEI efforts in the Watertown Public Schools and will share her goals for the upcoming school year. Community members are encouraged to attend and to engage in a question and answer session following the presentation. Come see how we can all support DEI efforts in our community.

Chamber Scholarship Deadline is Approaching!

The Charles River Regional Chamber announced it is offering scholarship opportunities for up to four deserving students who either live in Needham, Newton, Watertown, or Wellesley and/or who attend school in Needham, Newton, Watertown, or Wellesley and who plan to attend an accredited program, community college, college or university in the next academic year. The student(s) selected will have a check (approximately $2,000) sent to their college or university to apply toward tuition upon completing their first semester. New this year, the chamber is expanding eligibility for a scholarship to include high school graduates attending community colleges and other accredited post-secondary programs.

Selection will be made by a panel of local leaders who will review all applications completed by the submission deadline of March 29, 2024, at 5 p.m. Decisions will be made based on a combination of the application’s completeness and accuracy, letter of recommendation, and responses to essay questions. James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net.
