Watertown Cable Offering Summer Youth Workshop in July

The following announcement was provided by Watertown Cable Access TV:

WCA-TV’s Youth Workshop is back this summer for children between the ages of 9 to 14. Our students will learn the basics of video production, from scriptwriting to editing. By the end of the Workshop, students will have produced a film. This Workshop will run Monday-Wednesday from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. during the weeks of July 21stand 28th. This Workshop is free of charge to all students thanks to a generous grant from the Watertown Cultural Council.

Lane Closures on North Beacon Street Start This Week

The following announcement was provided the Department of Conservation and Recreation:

DCR Traffic Advisory: North Beacon Street in Watertown

WHAT: On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. and from Tuesday, June 3, 2025, through Friday, June 6, 2025, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close lanes along North Beacon Street from Greenough Boulevard to Charles River Road in the City of Watertown from to accommodate paving and line striping work. Traffic patterns will be clearly marked, and a police detail will be on site.    

WHERE: North Beacon Street from Greenough Boulevard to Charles River Road in the City of Watertown 

WHEN: Tuesday, May 27, 2025, 5 a.m. – 5 p.m. and  Tuesday, June 3, 2025 – Friday, June 6, 2025, 7 p.m. – 5 a.m.

See What Section of Mt. Auburn St. Will be Under Construction During the Week of Memorial Day

During the week of May 27-30, 2025, the removal of the bases for the old MBTA electric bus wires will continue, beginning at School Lane. There will be no work on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. See more details provided by the City of Watertown. Beginning Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Newport Construction will resume removing the overhead catenary bases along Mount Auburn Street, starting at School Lane and progressing westbound toward Watertown Square. Newport Construction may also resume drainage installation on Mount Auburn Street at the intersections with Kimball Road and Elton Avenue.

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal – then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

CAAW Dragon Boat Holds First Practice — Community Invited to June 8 Celebration

The Chinese American Association of Watertown (CAAW) proudly announces the successful first practice of its new dragon boat team, the CAAW Night Herons, held this past weekend in preparation for the upcoming Boston Dragon Boat Festival. The launch marks an exciting new chapter for community engagement through cultural tradition, athleticism, and teamwork. This milestone was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Watertown Cultural Council. To continue the spirit of celebration, CAAW invites the entire Watertown community to save the date: Sunday, June 8 for a family-friendly cultural celebration.

Vietnam Veterans Raise POW/MIA Flag at Greek Church’s Memorial Day Celebration

Memorial Day Celebration, Sunday, May 18th, at the Taxiarchae Greek Orthodox Church, Bigelow Avenue, Watertown, MA included Raising of the POW/MIA Flag. Color Guard was the Civil Air Patrol Cadets from the MA Wing located at Hanscom AFB. Hoisting the flag was Charles Kalivas, an Army Veteran who served in Vietnam 1967-68. Assisting was Leader of the Veteran’s Ministry, Peter J. Vergados, who also served in Vietnam as a Forward Air Controller (FAC). Charles Kalivas arrived in country at Cam Rahn Bay March, 1967.

Armenian Museum Kicks Off New Concert Series, Music in Color, With Acclaimed Violinist

The Armenian Museum of America is proud to announce the launch of Music in Color, a dynamic new concert series and Artist-in-Residence program led by acclaimed Armenian-American violinist Haig Hovsepian. This exciting initiative, generously supported by Nancy Kolligian, aims to bring engaging musical experiences to the Museum’s Adele and Haig Der Manuelian Galleries while deepening public connection to Armenian culture through music. Kicking off the series, Hovsepian will be joined by Chilean-American pianist Matias Nestor Cuevas for a powerful inaugural performance that promises both artistic excellence and cultural depth. Armenian violinist Haig Hovsepian will play at the Armenian Museum of America. The Music in Color: Artist-in-Residence Program is designed to foster meaningful engagement with the Museum’s exhibitions through live performance, educational elements, and cross-cultural collaborations.
