State Rep. Hecht Advocates for Electrical Vehicles at State House

On Tuesday at the State House, Representative Jonathan Hecht joined his colleagues, Representatives Smitty Pignatelli, Joan Meschino, Solomon Goldstein-Rose and Jack Lewis to host an Electric Vehicle Ride and Drive, Hecht’s office announced in a press release. The day began with a morning briefing, which highlighted the benefits of electric vehicles, showcased the enormous advancements made in electric vehicle technology over recent years, and addressed the future of electric vehicles in the Commonwealth. Attendees also learned about Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicles, which are expected to hit the Northeast car markets soon. The briefing brought in a diverse set of speakers, including Matthew Beaton, Secretary of the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs; Alli Gold Roberts, State Policy Director at Ceres; Basim Motiwala, Government Relations at Honda; and Karsten Barde, New Customer Offerings at National Grid. After the briefing, legislators, State House staff and media were invited to test drive a host of electric vehicles, including a BMWi3, a Nissan Leaf, a Chevy Bolt, a Mini-Cooper Plug-In, a Hyundai Ioniq, a Tesla Model X, and a hydrogen fuel cell Honda Clarity.

Red Cross’ Watertown Strong Blood Drive Coming to WHS Soon

The Watertown Strong Blood Drive will be held on April 21, 2018 at Watertown High School, the American Red Cross announced. The American Red Cross will run the blood drive on Saturday, April 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at WHS, 50 Columbia St., Watertown. Boston Bruins Mascot Makes Pre-Playoffs Visit to Watertown Tire Store

The Boston Bruins will start their quest for the Stanley Cup tonight against Toronto, but this week the Bruins’ mascot Blades paid a visit to a Watertown tire store. To celebrate the Boston Bruins’ road to the Stanley Cup, Sullivan Tire & Auto Service invited the official Bruins mascot, Blades, to their Watertown location for a meet and greet celebration on Tuesday, April 10, according to Sullivan Tires. Watertown Group Hosting Panel Discussion on How “Dark Money” Influences American Democracy

ProgressiveWatertown will host an event about how “Dark Money” is influencing democracy in the United States. 

The group will has assembled a panel that will explore “Dark Money” during a free event open to the public at the Watertown Free Public Library on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. The event will be in the Watertown Savings Bank Room. The panel includes Boston Globe Columnist Joan Vennochi, Harvard Kennedy School Senior Lecturer on Public Policy Marshall Ganz, and Theda Skocpol of Harvard, the author of the The Tea Party and the Remaking of Republican Conservatism.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host their Annual Spring Auction this year on Thursday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m. This yearly event raises crucial funds for the organization, including over $10,000 for summer camp scholarships. Watertown Resident Named Chief Marketing Officer for National Brain Tumor Society

Michael Antonellis – a life-long Watertown native and resident – has been named Chief Marketing Officer at Newton, MA-based National Brain Tumor Society, the largest nonprofit in the U.S. dedicated to the brain tumor and brain cancer cause, according to a press release from the National Brain Tumor Society. Mr. Antonellis is Watertown High School, class of 1987, graduate. He is a former president of the Watertown High School Football Gridiron Club and former president of Watertown/Belmont Pop Warner. Additionally, he’s served as a youth coach for basketball, football, baseball, hockey, and soccer in the town. He continues to live in town with his wife and two children.
