Watertown Dancer Performing in Cambridge Dance Company’s Production

Watertown resident Grace Cassels will be dancing in the Cambridge Youth Dance Program’s production of “Divertissement Too” later this month. 

Divertissement Too, presented by the Cambridge Youth Dance Program, marks the company’s tenth annual spring concert in a showcase of depth and variety, elegance and whimsy, bringing three performances to BU Dance Theater April 28 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and April-29 at 2 p.m. 2018. Mount Auburn Cemetery Announces New Member of Board of Trustees

Mount Auburn Cemetery is pleased to announce the appointment of Watertown resident Robert Airasian to its Board of Trustees. Airasian, one of four recent appointments, brings valuable expertise that will further the Cemetery’s mission, vision, and values. A broker with Coldwell Banker, Airasian has a long history of supporting local businesses and not-for- profit institutions. He currently serves as a board member at the Watertown Community Foundation and a trustee at the Watertown Savings Bank. He previously served as a board member and past president (2011-2013) at the Watertown-Belmont Chamber of Commerce.

Watertown Community Foundation Accepting Applications for Two Grant Programs

The Watertown Community Foundation (WCF) announced two Spring 2018 grant programs to support local nonprofits, programs and projects. Approximately $55,000 will be distributed. One: WCF’s Program Grants will award grants designed to help organizations that serve Watertown develop new or continue existing programs with an educational focus (broadly defined). These are programs that operate outside of the Watertown’s public schools. Two: WCF’s Institutional Grants are designed to help institutions central to the Watertown community by providing funds to maintain critical programming and retain paid staff.

Hear Russo’s Singing Deli Worker and Many Other Musicians at MusicFest

The annual celebration of music in Watertown – MusicFest – will feature Russo’s Singing Deli Worker Gilly Assunção, organizers announced.The Russo’s employee who became a Facebook sensation last Christmas who recently been accepted to Berklee College of Music, will be singing at the event at Watertown Middle School on Friday. Friends of Watertown Music (FoWM) presents its 7th annual MusicFest fundraiser, Friday, April 6, 5:30-9:30 p.m., at the Watertown Middle School, 68 Waverley Avenue, Watertown, MA. The event features over forty performances by musicians by students, community members, and professional musicians, and an instrument petting zoo. This year Gilly Assunção, the singing sensation from Russo’s Market, will close out the evening for us. Proceeds benefit the Music Department of the Watertown Public Schools.

New Owners Look to Reinvigorate Local Dance Studio With Renovations

Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Belmont (FADS Belmont), located in Cushing Square for 15 years, was purchased recently by long-time ballroom dance student, Biotech Executive, and Belmont resident, Elizabeth Woo, according to an announcement from the studio. Ms. Woo and her husband have lived in Belmont for 20 years and have 2 sons. The business is operating in its original location (bottom floor, below Spirited Gourmet at 448 Common Street) for the next couple months until the second floor renovations are completed by Oteri Construction, Inc. – run by Ed and Jen Oteri of Watertown. “This is my opportunity to make a greater contribution to my community and hopefully enrich the lives of the students and staff with the joys of dancing,” said Elizabeth Woo. “I have a vision to build out a beautiful new dance space, retain the best teachers, and offer more fun classes and activities which will attract dancers from around the area.”
With her long-time student perspective, Ms. Woo is highly motivated to elevate the overall quality and experience of the dance lessons provided.

New Executive Director of Watertown Community Foundation Appointed

The Watertown Community Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Jan Craige Singer as its new Executive Director. The Foundation sent out the following announcement:

Jan brings more than two decades of management and entrepreneurial experience in digital media and marketing. She is a passionate believer in the power of small groups of people to build and sustain healthy, vibrant communities. Colleagues describe her as someone who is motivated, motivational, optimistic, and someone who thinks outside the box. A 25-year resident of Watertown, Jan combined her creative and business acumen as president and managing partner of Big Blue Dot, a Watertown-based boutique brand strategy, design, and marketing agency for kids and families, building an award-winning team serving a client list which included USAA, Disney, P & G, and Unilever.

Developers of Arsenal Yards Hosting 2 Community Meetings on Phase 4 of Project

Two Community Meetings have been scheduled to present to the public information about the latest phase of the redevelopment of the Arsenal Mall. 

Developers sent out the following annoucement:

Boylston Properties and The Wilder Companies are holding two identical Community Meetings to review Phase 4 of the Arsenal Yards master plan. The purpose of these meetings will be to present and discuss the final layout and design of Buildings C, D, & E.2, as well as to discuss the operation of the property during construction. The buildings will contain retail, dedicated residential parking below Building D and residential apartments. Discussion will include the massing of the Buildings. 1st Community Meeting will be held on Thursday April 12, 2018 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.
2nd Community Meeting will be held on Wednesday April 18, 2018 from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Both meetings will be held at the “Arsenal Yards Development Office” located within the Mall.
