Watertown Boys & Girls Club Raising Funds to Transform Clubhouse

Watertown Boys & Girls Club, the town’s largest youth development agency, announced the launch of its $1.4 million Great Futures Campaign. Funds
raised by the campaign will be used to renovate and make capital improvements to the Club aimed at expanding teen programs, enhancing accessibility and strengthening security. The centerpiece of the renovation plans is the creation of a Teen Center to create a dedicated space for Club members aged 13-18. The teens will be able to engage in a variety of activities, including career exploration, SAT prep courses and community service, under the guidance of the new center’s Teen Director. The Great Futures Campaign funds will also be used to renovate the entryway to increase building security and to install a fully ADA-compliant ramp to ensure universal
accessibility.

(Salvucci) Forbes.A daughter of the late Anthony J. and Donata (Pelligrino) Salvucci. Angela entered into her eternal rest surrounded by her family on Sunday October 29, 2017 after a long and courageous battle with Multi Systems Atrophy Type C. She was 80 years old. Angela was a graduate of Saint Columbkille High School class of 1955 and Tufts
University, Boston School of Occupational Therapy in 1960. She was an accomplished therapist working on the cutting edge of psychiatric occupational therapy and day therapy. She is the beloved wife of 53 years to Kevin P. Forbes.

Watertown Walks Starts Nov. 1 – Join in Weekly Walks Around Town

The Watertown Health Department is excited to relaunch the Watertown Walks Program! The Health Department sent out the following information:

Join us this Wednesday, November 1st, from 12:00-1:00 p.m. for a scenic, moderate paced walk along the Charles River. Participants will meet in Saltonstall Park on Main Street, right next to Town Hall and across from Tedeschi’s Market, at 12:00 p.m. Walking shoes/sneakers and comfortable, warm clothing recommended. The program is part of an effort to build a healthier community. “Regular physical activity can reduce the burden of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers, and can prevent early death.

Watertown Health Department Hosting Two Flu Clinics in Early November

The Watertown Health Department will host two flu vaccine clinics over the next couple weeks for town residents, the officials announced. Here is the information about the final two flu clinics of the year:

Nov. 2: Watertown Public Library, 123 Main St., 9 a.m.-12 p.m. – anyone 6 months and over

Nov. 9: Watertown Public Library, 123 Main St., 2 p.m.-5 p.m. – anyone 6 months and over

Please remember to bring all your insurance and Medicare cards with you for billing purposes where applicable. Vaccine is still available to you, even if you do not have insurance.

LETTER: Support Councilors for Fixing Pot Holes, Not Focused on Political Movements

Vote Councilors that will worry about fixing potholes! Well it’s 2017 and sadly most voters believe this is a year when you aren’t required to fulfill your civic responsibility to vote. It’s an off year – right? Save for a small handful of special elections to fill vacancies in the Legislature, no one is running for anything until next year. 

Wrong! Nothing could be further from the truth.

Mass. Advocates for People with Disabilities Meeting in Watertown

Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong, a self-advocacy organization run for and by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, will meet in Watertown in November. 

The meeting will be held on Nov. 16, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Beaverbrook STEP Inc., 85 Main Street, 2nd Floor, Watertown, MA 02472. The group meets every third Thursday of the month. Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong wrote:

Watertown Company Honored for Offering English Classes to Employees

Last week, Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development Rosalin Acosta, spoke to a packed room of business leaders, immigrants, and English language program providers at Northeastern University. She was there to present awards at an event organized by English for New Bostonians to businesses that provide English classes for their immigrant workers, but she also had a personal message to share, English for New Bostonians announced. “My parents were educators in Cuba, but they didn’t speak English and they didn’t have licenses to teach here. My mom worked in a sweater assembly line. My dad worked in a machine shop.
