James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal – then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

Contemporary Printmakers’ Work on Display at Mosesian Center for the Arts

At Mosesian Arts printmakers are combining traditional printmaking techniques with contemporary approaches. Contemporary Printmaking: From Tradition to InnovationDates: May 9–June 27, 2025Opening Reception: Thursday, May 29, 5:30–7:30 PM

The Mosesian Center for the Arts is excited to showcase work that uses at least one or more printmaking processes. Contemporary printmaking is both shaped by tradition and innovation. This exhibition explores the variety of ways that contemporary artists approach printmaking from employing traditional techniques to more alternative methods and materials.

WEEKEND FUN: Porchfest, Herring Fest, Dolmas, Comedy, Mario Bros.

The 2025 Herring Fest is Sunday at the Watertown Dam. Feeling feisty or even festy? This is the weekend to indulge in festivals, including, of course,  Watertown Porchfest on Saturday, a festival of local musicians that covers the whole town. While you probably know that already, you may not know about the festivals that surround Porchfest that add some variety to the weekend festivities. On Friday there is an art exhibit and an open mic comedy evening at Fort Gallery called Spring Harvest.

See What’s Planned for the 2nd Annual Watertown Porchfest

Watertown’s Porchfest is back and expanded, with more than 180 performances at locations around town, and after hour events. See the announcement from the Porchfest committee below. Porchfest is returning for its 2nd year, this Saturday, May 17th from 12-6 p.m. with After Hours from 6-9 p.m.! 

Porchfest is a day of free music performed outside of people’s homes – on porches, patios, driveways, and lawns. This year there are 180+ performances at 70+ locations spread throughout the city. Start the day with the Watertown Public Arts and Culture Committee’s celebration of the new sculptures on the Community Sculpture Walk.

New pieces have been installed on the Watertown Community Sculpture Walk. On Saturday, a walk is planned where artists will discuss their sculptures. See more information from the City of Watertown. There is a Community Sculpture Walk on the Community Path in Saltonstall Park on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 11 a.m.-noon.

2025 Herring Festival Will be Held Near Watertown Dam

The 2025 Herring Festival will take place near the Watertown Dam on Sunday, May 18 beginning at 11 a.m. The event is hosted by the Charles River Watershed Association. Come and celebrate the annual migration of Alewife, Blueback Herring, and American Shad from the ocean into the Charles River. This free, family-friendly event will feature food trucks, community art activities, guided tours of the Watertown Dam, a live fishing demonstration and fun activities for all ages.
