Attention Fans of Batman and Eliza Dushku!

While you won’t see Eliza Dushku’s face in the latest Batman movie, she did lend her voice to the newest animated movie about the Dark Knight. “Batman: Assault on Arkham” will be released on video in August, but you can pre-order your disc now, according to Blu-ray.com. Kevin Conroy provides the voice of Batman, while Watertown-native Eliza Dushku is the voice of Killer Frost. In the original animated movie, the government makes group of super villains break into Arkham Asylum to retrieve top secret information that the Riddler had stolen, but when they get inside they free Joker. Batman must foil their plot to blow up the asylum and Gotham City, according to Blu-ray.com (read the entire story here). Find Out About Eliza Dushku’s Latest Project

 Watertown-native Eliza Dushku will be headed to the Motor City to work on her latest big screen project. Dushku and co-star Chase Crawford will be filming “Eloise” in a former psychiatric hospital – the Wayne County Poor House – in the Detroit suburb of Westland, according to a story on Michigan-based MLive.com. (Click here to read the full story). In the movie, four friends break into the abandoned institution to find proof that they are in line for a big inheritance. While in the former insane asylum, “the group not only finds that the institution houses a horrifying history but also the truth about their own tragic pasts,” according to a report on Deadline.com.

Watertown Man Seeks Help Publishing Graphic Novel on Machiavelli

For years, Watertown’s Don MacDonald has worked on pages for a graphic novel on Niccolo Machiavelli, and now his wants to get help paying to print his work. MacDonald works on his project in his spare time, and has posted his drawings and story on his online blog, http://donmacdonald.com/. He recently started a campaign on Kickstarter.com to pay for the printing and to create a website for the project. (Click here to go to the Kickstarter page). His goal is raising $7,500 by May 15, 2014. Machiavelli has interested MacDonald for years, because of his link to art, politics and Italy.

Couple Uses Plates to Protest Watertown Manhunt

Artists Mike Mandel and Chantal Zakari experienced the Watertown Manhunt first hand and they did not like what they saw, and they expressed their feelings by creating commemorative plates. While most such porcelain items show a scene of beauty or something happy, the center of the plates created by the married couple features pictures of SWAT teams, armored vehicles and police searching houses. Family Celebration Planned on Saturday in Watertown

Watertown’s spirit will be celebrated at a family event on Saturday afternoon. On the anniversary of the celebration following the capture of the second Boston Marathon Bombing suspect – April 19 – a celebration will be held in Watertown at the Armenian Cultural Center, 47 Nichols Avenue, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Activities include face painting and balloon animals courtesy of Colores Kids of Natick. A “Watertown Spirit” youth dance performance organized by students from Miss Maria’s School of Dance and Watertown Strong Schools. Food and music will also be provided.

Watertown’s Eliza Dushku Starring in New Web Series

You can catch Eliza Dushku’s newest project – a sci-fi short – on YouTube now. 

The Watertown native, famous for her role in Joss Whedon’s “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Angel,” is teaming up with director Kevin Tancharoen, who is related to Whedon by marriage. In the short, “The Gable Five,” Dushku is one of five test subjects for Dr. Gable, a scientist trying to come up with a drug that is “so powerful it could be used to win every battle, every war, with no casualties,” according to the YouTube description. She described her character as a “badass” in an interview on the Comicbook.com blog. When asked about she often plays strong female characters she said it is in her DNA and also credits her mother and other feminist role models in her life, as well as growing up with three brothers.

Watertown Mural Receives Award at State House

The mural of scenes around Watertown painted over the summer will be recognized at the State House Tuesday afternoon. The work, “Spirit of Watertown,” was created by Watertown High School students who worked with artist Gregg Bernstein. It is 207 feet long and went on a formerly graffiti covered wall on the path between Whites and Waverley avenues. The Massachusetts Cultural Council awarded the mural a Gold Star Award.
