Weekend Fun: Children’s Music, Greenway Cleanup, Silk Screening & More

Sulinha’s Trio performs educational children’s music at the Library. This is going to be a lovely weekend to enjoy some poetry at Mount Auburn Cemetery or to catch a yard sale. If you have little ones at home, take them over to the library for some music time with a Brazilian influence. The songs are in English, but the instrumentation is definitely Brazilian. As a crafty person myself, I’m drawn to the home-held stamp camp or the silk screening at the Fort Gallery exhibit.

Wednesday’s Summer Concert Postponed Due to Heat

With temperatures expected to get into the 90s on Wednesday, July 17, City of Watertown officials announced the postponement of the Summer Concert. “Due to the extreme heat advisory and potential for thunderstorms, the Summer Concert featuring the Squeezebox Stompers has been postponed to 9/4,” the City announced in an email. Summer concerts are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8 p.m. at Saltonstall Park, next to City Hall. See the lineup here: https://watertown-ma.gov/761/Summer-Concert-Series

See What Small Saves Does During Beach Weather

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net. Combining this with the love of cartooning Small Saves emerged in 1991 and took on a life of his own. “To play goal – then come home and draw Small Saves — is my ideal definition of a good day.”

There is a lot happening on Saturday this weekend: a classic car show, a writing in nature gathering at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, a meeting of the Watertown Run Club, and a tour of the Hatch Makerspace. I’m going to start my weekend on Friday at the Linx Summerfest. Isn’t it fun to eat food from food trucks while strolling vendor booths or discovering your next craft exploration at a demonstration? The next morning, you can head over to the Majestic 7 to catch a family friendly movie.

Sara Emara’s “It’s Pumpkin Time” is on display at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. The Mosesian Center for the Arts announced its latest exhibition: From the Studios: Artwork from Our Teaching Artists and Students. The Mosesian Center for the Arts is excited to present an exhibition that showcases the work of our teaching artists and students who have taken adult visual arts classes in the last few sessions as well as young artists who are attending our 2024 Summer Stages & Studios program. “Floating in red” by Nancy Goodman is part of the latest exhibition at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. We are very fortunate to have such a talented group of teaching artists working in our classrooms and dedicated and enthusiastic students.

The evening promises a rich blend of the timeless music of Dave Brubeck, original compositions by Eric Mintel, and much more. Eric Mintel, a celebrated pianist and composer, has a storied career spanning over 30 years. His impressive résumé includes performances by invitation at the White House, over ten appearances at the Kennedy Center, and a special concert at the United Nations. His quartet’s dynamic sound and captivating performances have made them a favorite among jazz fans worldwide.
