If you are looking for a place to catch the game, there are some special events planned around town. Donohue’s Bar & Grill, 87 Bigelow Ave., will start early with a full breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the pre-game programming the bar will be offering promos, said owner John Donohue. Catch the game on 22 HD TVs, and enjoy a buffet at halftime. Donohue’s will also be raffling off two 60-inch HD LG LED flat screen TVs during the big game.

Watertown Runner Sets School Record; Girls’ Hoops Keep Winning

Watertown runner Austin Lin continues to turn in amazing times during the indoor track season. 

After running the seventh fastest 400 meters in the nation earlier this year, he ran the 600 in a school record time at the MSTCA Elite Meet/Coaches Invitational on Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston. The time of 1:23.02 placed Lin fourth in the event which features many of the best high school track and field athletes in Massachusetts. The WHS junior broke a mark that stood for 40 years, according to a report on the Wicked Local Watertown. Girls Basketball Stays Undefeated
The Raiders put their unbeaten record on the line against another undefeated team Friday night, and Watertown came out on top. Woburn led the Liberty Division of the Middlesex League – the big school division – but fell to the top team in the small school division – the Freedom Division.

WHS Runner Ranked Among Best in U.S.; Boys’ Hoops, Girls’ Hockey on Streaks

A Watertown runner turned in one of the best runs in the whole nation at a recent indoor track meet. Watertown junior Austin Lin turned in a time of 50.03 in the 400 at the at the recent Boston University mini-meet. The time ranks him the seventh fastest high school runner in the indoor 400 in the United States. The boys’ and girls’ indoor track teams also scored their first wins on Jan. 6, beating Stoneham 46-42 and 44-42, respectively.

Town Councilor Wants to Created Local Olympic Committee

With last week’s announcement that Boston had been chosen as the United State’s nominee to bid for the 2024 Summer Olympics, a Town Councilor has proposed creating a group to take on the issue from Watertown’s perspective. On Tuesday, Councilor Tony Palomba said he will propose creating an ad hoc Watertown Olympic Committee at the next Council meeting on Jan. 27. “The committee’s role will be keeping Watertown in the mix as we move forward for potential planning for Boston and surrounding areas to host the 2024 Summer Olympics,” Palomba said. Even if no events take place in Watertown, Palomba said he expects the town to be impacted by the major, two-week sporting event.

Current, Former Watertown Field Hockey Players Among Nation’s Best

Watertown High School field hockey players, from past and present, earned the highest recognition for their play – they were named All Americans. Two members of this year’s Raiders team, which captured its sixth straight state championship, made the list of top high school players in the nation as named by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Allie Doggett made the First Team Harrow Sports/NFHCA All-American Team. The senior scored 24 goals and added 18 assists this year, finishing her career at Watertown with 62 goals and 67 assists. She also was named to the Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic teams and was co-Div.

Watertown Football Team Honored by School Committee

Celebration of Watertown High School’s football team’s successful season continued this week when the players and coaches were honored by the School Committee. The Raiders went 9-2, won the Middlesex League Freedom Division, made the MIAA Div. 4 football playoffs, and capped the season with a win over Belmont on Thanksgiving Day. Watertown Football Coach John Cacace said the success started well before the season. “It has not been just since Thanksgiving 2013, but when these guys were freshmen,” Cacace said.

WHS Sports: Raiders Girls’ Basketball, Boys Hockey on a Roll

Watertown’s girls’ basketball and boys’ hockey teams enjoyed a successful winter break by wracking up the wins. The Raiders girls’ basketball squad won the Bellingham Tournament holiday tournament with victories over Natick and Bellingham. Then the team came home and beat Wakefield 53-34 to improve to 6-0, according to the report in The Raider Times, WHS’s student newspaper. Watertown sits in first place in the Middlesex League Freedom Division with a 4-0 league record. Boys’ Hockey Unbeaten Streak

Watertown 14U Softball Team Avenges Only Loss in Tourney

The Watetown 14U Winter Raiders competed in a tournament and had eyes on beating the only team to hand them a loss.

This past Saturday the 14U Winter Raiders were in the playoffs. Their mission was to play the top seed and avenge an earlier loss. The Raiders were the number two seed as their only loss came from a tough Academy team. This tournament team has been together for quite a while and won it all last year. Earlier in the season they handed the Raiders their only loss with a score of 10-3.
