A playground named in honor of a Watertown man who died in Vietnam will be getting an update, with new play structures and paving.

James DeMarco grew up in Watertown and became a goaltender at age 5. It’s his life’s passion to stand between the pipes and keep the puck out of the net.

A large snapping turtle was found dead near the bank of Charles River in Watertown, and the cause of death was determined to be from a rodent poison that prevents blood from clotting. The case is the first documented death of a snapping turtle by rodenticide in Massachusetts, according to a wildlife advocacy group.

The City Council will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, where the revitalization of Watertown Square will be discussed.
A frontal system brings one last chance of showers and storms Friday, followed by a stretch of dry, beautiful weather through the holiday weekend and into next week. Temperatures run slightly below average at first, with crisp mornings and comfortably warm afternoons, then gradually trend back toward the low 80s by midweek. Humidity stays moderate to low, making for a very pleasant start to September.
Four properties are hosting an open houses this weekend.
A Watertown man had his shower interrupted and saw a pair of men in his bathroom on Aug. 25. The two home invasion suspects were arrested later that day.
UPDATE, Aug. 28, 11:45 a.m.: Watertown Police said the woman who was missing for a day and a half was found unharmed.
