A playground named in honor of a Watertown man who died in Vietnam will be getting an update, with new play structures and paving.

The City’s Parker Building at 124 Watertown Street will be temporarily closed from May 2-12, 2026, to undergo electrical service upgrades in the building.
A study of the Watertown Public Schools’ special education found a number of areas of concerns, including a lack of uniformity, a need for better communication with families, and a distrust among parents of students in the program.

In 1912 Mayor Yukio Ozaki of Tokyo City, gave 3,000 cherry trees to Washington, D.C. to celebrate the growing friendship between the United States and Japan. Thirty-three years later, on August 6, 1945, the United States dropped the first nuclear bomb on Hiroshima and the second on Nagasaki three days later. Over 100,000 people’s lives were ended instantly and by the end of that year, over 210,000 people were dead. Countless others were maimed or suffered long-term effects of radiation.

When the 2025-26 School Year begins in September, Watertown High School students will have a new dress code, and fewer days to add or drop a class. The School Committee also discussed the sex-based harassment reporting policy, and heard about individualized instruction for math and literacy, and district policy changes.
The City seeks residents to serve on the Memorialization Committee, a new board that will create a process for naming public places such as parks, streets, squares, and municipal buildings, and making recommendations to the Council about how “Watertown honors its people and stories.” See the announcement from the City of Watertown below.
