Dozens of Open Houses Around Watertown This Week

The strike by union employees working at Republic Services has ended as the two sides announced an agreement on Friday.
A mix of properties, from condos to two-families, will be holding open houses this weekend in Watertown.
The City Council approved the water and sewer rates on Tuesday, which will be rising, but they would have been higher if not for an earlier decision.
There is a lot happening on Saturday this weekend: a classic car show, a writing in nature gathering at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, a meeting of the Watertown Run Club, and a tour of the Hatch Makerspace. I’m going to start my weekend on Friday at the Linx Summerfest. Isn’t it fun to eat food from food trucks while strolling vendor booths or discovering your next craft exploration at a demonstration? The next morning, you can head over to the Majestic 7 to catch a family friendly movie. Kids are free! If you don’t have a kid, you can go anyway.

Since 2015 the Watertown Community Foundation has made it possible for high school students in Watertown to gain valuable professional experience by funding summer internships. Nearly 70 high-schoolers have received stipends from the Watertown Community Foundation High School Internship Program since it began. This year, four students from Watertown High School will receive internship stipends from the Watertown Community Foundation to learn more about working in one of Watertown’s non-profits.
Local teens have been tending tiny trees for the Miyawaki forest planting.

Good news for Watertown: the city’s first Miyawaki Forest will be planted this fall! Miyawaki forests — which can be as small as a ping pong table or as big as a parking lot — are named for Akira Miyawaki, a Japanese ecologist and weed expert (1928-2021).
