City Relaxing Sidewalk Shoveling Rules After Blizzard, Keeping Parking Ban in Place

The City of Watertown will give residents a break from the sidewalk snow shoveling rules after the blizzard of Jan. 22 and 23 dumped around 15 inches of snow on top of snow remaining from the storm in January. But the overnight parking ban — scheduled to end on Feb. 28 — will be in place until further notice. This winter’s storms have already sapped Watertown’s snow and ice fund for the winter, so the Council approved additional dollars to be spent on snow removal.

Firefighters Battle Two Alarm Fire, Slowed by Snow Around Hydrants

Watertown Firefighters battled a blaze on Flint Road on Tuesday, and efforts were slowed because some hydrants in the area were not shoveled out after Monday’s storm.

The U.S. Department of Labor has determined that a Watertown roofing contractor again violated federal regulations for fall protections, following a workplace safety investigation into how an employee suffered fatal injuries after falling about 27 feet as they tried to carry materials and climb a ladder jack scaffold at a Brighton work site in September 2023.

The City of Watertown announced that preparation work for the Mt. Auburn Street reconstruction project will begin this week. See the announcement below.

The Mount Auburn Street project team is pleased to announce that roadway and sidewalk construction is anticipated to begin in Spring 2024. Work will begin at the Cambridge city line moving west segment by segment towards Watertown Square until the project boundary just west of Patten Street.
