As we end the first week of fall and reflect upon the summer that saw our regular trash and recycling services disrupted by the labor strike between Republic Services and their unionized workforce, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to the community for their continued understanding and the members of City staff for their hard work.
Watertown hired a new Veterans Services Officer, who is a Navy and Army National Guard veteran with experience in frontline medical care, and most recently worked in the Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services. See the announcement from the City of Watertown, below.
Several polling places in Watertown will be moving to a new location for the 2025 Watertown Election. City Councilors had concerns about how voters will know where to go to vote.

Dennis-Yarmouth held Watertown off the board for nearly five minutes in the MIAA Div. 3 Field Hockey Quarterfinal, but goals just seconds apart gave the Raiders the lead on the way to a 7-0 win.

Dr. Norman Adler passed away on October 12, 2023 at the age of 95 in Milton, MA.

Our November general membership meeting will be hosted by the Peace and Common Security working group. Join us for a discussion of the state of nuclear weapons, the danger they pose, and the idea that we can guarantee that a limited nuclear exchange can be controlled. Most importantly we will explore what we can do about the unraveling of nuclear weapons treaties and decisions to build new more powerful nukes.

Having an annual meeting is a big part of co-op business. It is a chance for us to gather together as a community, hear about what the board is working on, find out about volunteer opportunities, and ask questions. Plus we’ll be announcing the results of this year’s board election.
One Watertown restaurant will donate money for a good cause, and another will be offering discounts this months to different groups and professions, starting this week with veterans.
With Veterans Day falling on Saturday, the observed holiday for the City of Watertown will be on Friday.
