Mt. Auburn St. Project: Drainage Installation Work Starting This Week

The following announcement was provided by the City of Watertown:

Newport Construction has begun preparing for drainage installation on Mount Auburn Street, with work set to begin on October 2, 2024. The project will start at the Cambridge line near 805 and 821 Mount Auburn St. and progress towards the intersection of Mount Auburn Street and Arlington Street.

Lane Closures to Occur During Removal of Wires from Mt. Auburn Street

Charlie BreitroseThe wires that had been used by MBTA buses in Watertown will be removed to prepare for the Mt. Auburn Street renovation. Drivers will see some lane closures over the next few weeks during the removal of catenary wires formerly used by MBTA buses. The work is being done prior to the start of the Mt. Auburn Street Renovation project.

MBTA’s Electric “Trolley” Buses to be Removed from Service Due to Road Projects

Charlie BreitroseThe electric trackless trolleys used by the MBTA in Watertown will be taken off line due to roadwork on Mt. Auburn Street and replaced at first by hybrid diesel and then battery powered buses. The projects require the overhead wires to be removed. The following announcement was provided by the MBTA:

The MBTA, City of Cambridge, and City of Watertown announced today that five municipal and utility roadway projects in Cambridge and Watertown along Mt. Auburn Street, Belmont Street, and Huron Avenue are set to commence in spring 2022.
