Mt. Auburn St. Project Will Impact Arlington/Grove Intersection This Week

The construction on Mt. Auburn Street continues with more drainage installation during the week of June 23-27, and work will also take place at the intersection of Arlington and Grove streets. Beginning Monday, June 23, 2025, Newport Construction will resume drainage installation on Mount Auburn Street between Kimball Road and Lloyd Road. Additionally, Newport Construction will be eliminating the existing telephone manhole and installing a new telephone manhole located at the intersection of Grove Street and Arlington Street. During this work, you can expect temporary lane shifts and possibly lane closures, but one travel lane in each direction will remain on Mount Auburn Street.

During the week of May 27-30, 2025, the removal of the bases for the old MBTA electric bus wires will continue, beginning at School Lane. There will be no work on Monday, May 26 in observance of Memorial Day. See more details provided by the City of Watertown. Beginning Tuesday, May 27, 2025, Newport Construction will resume removing the overhead catenary bases along Mount Auburn Street, starting at School Lane and progressing westbound toward Watertown Square. Newport Construction may also resume drainage installation on Mount Auburn Street at the intersections with Kimball Road and Elton Avenue.

Pieces of Old Bus Wire System Being Removed as Part of Mt. Auburn Street Project

The bases that used to hold the wires for the MBTA’s electric buses will be removed this week as part of the Mt. Auburn Street Project. TREE HEARING this Wednesday for Nine Shade Trees MassDOT Wants to Remove

The Mass. Department of Transportation (MassDOT) wants to cut down nine shade treesalong Mount Auburn Street in order to make way for roadway modifications. This was unexpected by those of us who believed MassDOT’s assurances months ago that destruction of shade trees as part of the Mount Auburn Street Project would be minimal. If this destruction concerns you, the Public Shade Tree Removal Hearing for these trees is on Zoom at 10 a.m. this Wednesday, May 14.

Mt. Auburn St. Project: Installation of Electrical Pipes Continues at 3 Intersections

The Mt. Auburn Street project will continue during the week of March 12-16, including installation of electrical conduit (underground electrical pipes) at three intersections on Mt. Auburn Street includes electrical conduit installation for three areas: at Common Street, Irving Street/Palfrey Street, and between Bates Road and Garfield Street.
