Mt. Auburn St. Project: Installation of Electrical Pipes Continues at 3 Intersections

The Mt. Auburn Street project will continue during the week of March 12-16, including installation of electrical conduit (underground electrical pipes) at three intersections on Mt. Auburn: Common Street, Irving Street/ Palfrey Street, and between Bates Road and Garfield Street. See details in the announcement from the City of Watertown, below. Traffic and Sidewalk ImpactsDuring this work, you can expect temporary lane shifts and possibly lane closures, but one travel lane in each direction will remain on Mount Auburn Street.

Traffic Advisory for Roads in and Around Watertown, Including North Beacon Street

WHAT: Beginning on Sunday, May 11, 2025, and continuing through Monday, June 2, 2025, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close lanes along North Beacon Street from Greenough Boulevard to Charles River Road in the City of Watertown from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to accommodate milling and paving work. Traffic patterns will be clearly marked, and a police detail will be on site.

DCR Traffic Advisory: Gerrys Landing Road in Cambridge

WHAT: Beginning on Monday, May 12, 2025, and continuing through Friday, June 13, 2025, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) will close lanes along Gerrys Landing Road from Greenough Boulevard to Mt Auburn Street in the City of Cambridge from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. to accommodate milling and paving work. Traffic patterns will be clearly marked, and a police detail will be on site.

Weekend Work, Drainage Work, Traffic Signal Installations, and More on Mt. Auburn St.

The City of Watertown provided the following update about the road construction project on Mt. Auburn Street:

Weekend Work – March 8, 2025 – Pedestrian Signal Electrical Work

Saturday, March 8, 2025 Newport Construction and the City of Watertown will be performing electrical work to relocate pedestrian walking signals to prepare for signal preparation work at the Mount Auburn Street and Arlington Street intersection (see map below)

Drainage Installation Work Continues between Arlington St. and Bigelow Ave. Newport Construction is continuing to complete the drainage installation work eastbound between Arlington Street and Bigelow Avenue.

The following announcement was provided by the City of Watertown:

Newport Construction is continuing to complete the drainage installation work between Arlington Street and Bigelow Avenue on the eastbound side. You can expect to see construction crews in this area from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the week ending on Feb. 7, 2025. Traffic Impacts

There will be lane shifts and a potential lane closure during this work, which may also impact street parking in the immediate work area. Currently we do not anticipate any detours.

Drainage Installation at Mt. Auburn St. & Arlington St. Intersection to Begin This Week

Work on the Mt. Auburn Street reconstruction project will restart in the New Year. See details in the announcement from the City of Watertown. Temporary Paving Expected to be Completed Next Week

The City of Watertown has initiated work to temporarily level and pave the remainder of Mount Auburn Street next week while we await the completion of the Mt. Auburn Street Project. Originally not anticipated to receive any temporary paving as part of the project, the City has stepped in to fund this work to ensure one of Watertown’s busiest roads is paved for safer, smoother travel in 2024 ahead of the winter season. This work is being accelerated beyond the scope of the ongoing Mt.

Mt. Auburn St. Repaving Between School and Summer St. Starts Next Week

The City of Watertown sent out the following information:

Temporary Paving Expected to be Completed Next Week

Newport Construction will be leveling and laying temporary pavement moving east on Mount Auburn Street, starting at Summer Street and ending just prior to School Street. Both eastbound and westbound lanes will be completed, starting on the eastbound side of the street. The road lines will be restriped once the paving is completed to look the same as it was previously. The work originally scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM has been rescheduled due to anticipated rain. It is now expected to take place on Monday, November 25, and Tuesday, November 26, 2024 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
