Mt. Auburn St. Project: Electrical Conduit Installation Continues Closer to Watertown Square

During the week of May 5 to May 9, 2025 the work being done by Newport Construction on Mt. Auburn Street includes electrical conduit installation for three areas: at Common Street, Irving Street/Palfrey Street, and between Bates Road and Garfield Street. During this work, you can expect temporary lane shifts and possibly lane closures, but one travel lane in each direction will remain on Mount Auburn Street. Work will take place on the sidewalks, but they will remain open and accessible.

During the week of April 28 through May 3, 2025, work on the Mt. Auburn Street Project includes installation of conduit in two areas of the roadway, including at the intersections of School and Boylston streets. See more in the announcement provided by the City of Watertown:

Starting Monday, April 28, 2025 Newport Construction will continue installing traffic electrical conduit (underground electrical pipes) at the intersection of Mount Auburn Street and School Street beginning at 7am. During this time Newport Construction will also continue down Mount Auburn Street to install electrical conduits at the intersection of Mount Auburn Street and Boylston Street. Traffic and Sidewalk Impacts

Mt. Auburn St. Roadwork Resumes After Week’s Delay for Weather

The following announcement was provided by the City of Watertown:

After work was paused the week of February 17-21 due to the weather conditions, the previously announced work will resume on Monday, February 24, 2025. Drainage Installation Work Continues between Arlington St. and Bigelow Ave. Newport Construction is continuing to complete the drainage installation work eastbound between Arlington Street and Bigelow Avenue and westbound between Arlington Street and Kimball Road. You can expect to see construction crews in this area from 7am to 5pm.

The following announcement was provided by the City of Watertown:

Newport Construction has begun preparing for drainage installation on Mount Auburn Street, with work set to begin on October 2, 2024. The project will start at the Cambridge line near 805 and 821 Mount Auburn St. and progress towards the intersection of Mount Auburn Street and Arlington Street.

Road Surface on Arsenal Street to be Milled Starting This Week

The City of Watertown sent out the following information:

The milling process on Arsenal Street, which involves grinding the road surface in preparation for paving, will begin on Monday, July 22, 2024, starting from Greenough Boulevard to Forge Road. This work will progress block by block towards Watertown Square over approximately six weeks. Please drive carefully and consider using alternate routes when possible. We appreciate your cooperation. The section of Arsenal Street that will be milled to prepare for repaving beginning July 22.

Roads Near Watertown High School to be Closed for Utility Work

The following information was provided by the WHS construction project management firm, Vertex:

Dear Community Members,

Activities to complete the underground utility service improvements for the New High School Project are scheduled for Monday 10/23 and Tuesday 10/24. Please be aware that during work hours Columbia St. will be closed from Common St. to Barnard Ave. Resident access to driveways will be protected on Columbia St.
