Watertown City Hall, Senior Center, and Department of Public Works office are closing at noon on Friday, December 22 and will be closed on Christmas Day, Monday, December 25, 2023. The Library is closed on Sunday, December 24 and Monday, December 25, 2023, and open limited hours on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 from 1 to 7 PM. Please be aware that there is a one delay for trash and recycling pickup for the week due to the holiday.

Grant Will Help Seniors Stay Connected Through Ride Service Pilot Program

Watertown will be offering its seniors rides when they want them for trips to the doctor, to get groceries and more in a pilot program using a grant provided by the Massachusetts Association of Councils on Aging. Currently, seniors have access to rides through a smartphone app, but that has worked for everyone, said Lydia McCoy, Watertown’s Director of Senior Services said at the Senior Center Holiday Lunch on Dec. 15. “Not everyone knows how to use a rideshare app, not everyone has a smart phone and it’s not so easy to always navigate,” McCoy said.

Watertown Closings and Trash Collection Delays for Thanksgiving

The Thanksgiving holiday will impact Watertown City facilities, as well as trash collection this week. See details in the City of Watertown’s announcement:

Watertown City Hall and Senior Center will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 23 and 24, 2023 and the Library will be closing at 5 PM on Wednesday, November 22 and will be closed on Thursday, November 23, 2023 for Thanksgiving. 

Please be aware that there is NO trash or recycling pickup on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, 2023. The holiday postpones pickup by one day to Friday, November 24, and Friday’s pickup will be on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

Watertown Hosting Senior Health & Wellness Fair This Week

On Nov. 15, 2023, the Watertown Department of Senior Services will host the Health and Wellness Fair at the Commander’s Mansion. The event includes free presentations, fitness demonstrations, health screens, a raffle, giveaway as and many vendors! The event takes place from noon to 3 p.m., and doors open at 11:40 p.m. Seating is limited, and the event is wheel chair accessible with a elevator. Watertown’s Commander’s Mansion is located at 440 Talcott Ave., Watertown, MA 02472

Some Watertown City Facilities to Close Friday for Veterans Day

With Veterans Day falling on Saturday, the observed holiday for the City of Watertown will be on Friday. The City announced that Watertown City Hall and the Senior Center will be closed on Friday, November 10, 2023 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday. The Watertown Free Public Library will be open on Friday, but will close on Saturday, November 11, 2023. Please be aware that there is NO delay for trash and recycling pickup schedule for the week.

Flu Shots Available at the Watertown Senior Center

The following information is provided by the City of Watertown:

The Watertown Public Health Department is offering the influenza vaccine to Watertown Senior Residents at the Watertown Senior Center, located at 31 Marshall Street, on Friday, October 6, 2023 and Friday, October 13, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Senior residents can register here to sign up an appointment and secure their dose. Please bring your ID and health insurance card(s) with you (if you have insurance). Please wear loose or short sleeves if possible. If you have any problems signing up for your flu shot online, please call the Health Department at 617-972-6446, Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., and they will help you.
