Sept. 10, 3:46 p.m: Target security stopped a man who put numerous items in a cart and tried to leave without paying. He had $320.80 worth of merchandise. The 27-year-old man from Randolph was arrested on a charge of shoplifting over $100.
The prescription medication disposal box is back in the lobby of the Watertown Police Station.
The big green box had been at the station a few years ago, but was removed because Police could not handle the volume of medication coming in. “Watertown residents are encouraged to drop off any unwanted prescription medications,” the Watertown Police Department announced. “Residents are kindly asked to place their prescription medications into the available sealable plastic bags prior to disposal. We also have a separate sharps container for the safe disposal of syringes.” The drop box and syringe disposal is part of the town’s effort to combat the influx of opioid abuse and addiction in town.

Aug. 31, 10:14 a.m.: An unwanted person was reported at the Mount Auburn Club. When police arrived they did a warrant check and found the 33-year-old Cambridge man had three warrants from Edgartown District Court – two for open and gross lewdness and one for indecent exposure. Sept.

Aug. 25, 9:49 p.m.: A man was panhandling in front of Tedeschi’s on Main Street, and the store employees called the police. When they arrived and asked him to stop, the man began yelling and screaming at officers and became aggressive. Police arrested the 41-year-old Waltham man for disorderly conduct.

Aug. 20, 7:46 p.m.: Security at the Stop & Shop on Watertown Street spotted a man they recognized as a past shoplifter. They saw him take some packages of razors and beauty products from the health and beauty area of the store worth a total of $337.87. The 48-year-old homeless man was arrested on charges of larceny over $250.
Now through Sept. 7, the Watertown Police Department will team up with
Massachusetts State Police and more than 191 eligible local police departments across the state to curb impaired driving and save lives. The high-visibility campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, is funded by a federal grant administered through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division (EOPSS/HSD), according to an announcement from the Watertown Police Department. During the upcoming enforcement period, there will be a special emphasis on drunk-driving enforcement. Local drivers should expect to see more patrol vehicles, OUI checkpoints, and increased messaging about this reckless crime. In 2013, there were 10,076 people killed across the country in drunk-driving crashes.

Arrests
Aug. 12, 10:34 p.m.: Officers were on Patten Street looking for a suspect in a different investigation when they stopped a black truck. They found the driver had a revoked license. They also discovered that the female passenger had a warrant for her arrest. The driver, a 33-year-old man from Taunton, was arrested on a charge of driving with a revoked license.

July 28, 6:17 p.m.: The state Probation Department contacted Watertown Police about a man violating probation out of Lowell District Court. Officers served a warrant and arrested a 47-year-old Watertown man on Lyons Court. July 28, 8:55 p.m.: Employees at Home Depot spotted a man stumbling around the store and appeared to be drunk. When Police arrived they located the man in the parking lot.
