WHS Athletic Hall of Fame Seeking Nominations for Class of 2017

The Watertown High School Athletic Hall of Fame announced it will continue to accept nominations for this year’s class until March 15. Founded in 1992, the Hall, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, honors individuals and teams who have made significant contributions to the community through their time as student-athletes, or in support of various athletic programs at Watertown High School. This year’s inductees will be honored at a banquet this fall. Recent inductees include former Red Raider greats Casey Bracket, Nick Goodman, Mary, Catherine, Bethany, & Jane Rogers, as well as the 1983 Middlesex League Champion football team. WHS Sports: Wrestlers Qualify for States, Track League Meet & Hoops

The Watertown High School wrestling team continued its successful season by qualifying several athletes for the State Divisional Meet. 

Watertown had 12 wrestlers competing in the Div. 3 Central Section meet on Saturday at Ashland High School. Van Athanasopoulos was the highest finisher for there Raiders. He went 3-1 and won the third-place match in the 145 pound competition. He will compete in the Div.

Coming off one of the most successful seasons in years, the Watertown High School football team is nearly ready to kick off the season – well the preseason, anyway. Last year the Raiders lost in the section final to league-rival Stoneham, but defeated Belmont on a last-minute field goal. The first scrimmage for the 2016 squad will be held Saturday, Aug. 27 at 10 a.m. at Victory Field. After a second scrimmage at Newburyport, Watertown plays its first official game on Saturday, Sept.

See the Schedule of Meets for the Watertown Cross Country Teams

Watertown High School’s boys’ and girls’ school cross country teams are getting ready to start their seasons this week. Both teams will have a scrimmage this week, and then start the competitions that count with a home meet on Sept. 16 against Winchester. Generally, the boys and girls compete at the same meets, with different starting times. Home meets are held at Arsenal Park – 145 Talcott Ave.
