WEEKEND FUN: South Asian Music, World Cup Watch, Art at the Armenian Museum, Crafts for Kids, Sewing Machine Group

The Fourth of July weekend has some activities, including a concert featuring South Asian music on Sunday, get out of the heat and see some art Friday or Sunday, or watch the World Cup all weekend. The Watertown Library will be the venue for kids crafts on Friday, and a sewing machine group meets on Sunday. SOUTH ASIAN MUSIC: Apna-Sa SOUNDS OF BELONGINGSunday, July 5, 2 p.m. Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main St. Apna-Sa – Sounds of Belonging is a thematic South Asian concert series presented under the banner of Sarang: Colors of South Asian Music, celebrating the cultural heritage of South Asia. Curated by Indian classical violinist Pranav Swaroop Bettagere, the event features collaborations among talented artists from the Greater Boston area, representing diverse South Asian traditions and influences.

The Pride month celebration continues this week with the Tipsy Tea Party on Sunday. The final weekend of a play by a new theater company is at the Mosesian Center. This weekend you can get out and enjoy the nice weather during a Summer Solstice celebration, check out the first performance by the Boston Dance Company in Watertown, catch a World Cup game or two, see a new play, and take a bike ride while learning some history on Juneteenth. The program moves between virtuosic contemporary dance, codified training traditions, and embodied philosophical practices, creating a rich field of exchange across styles, lineages, and generations. If you need a break from the World Cup (or do not follow soccer), Watertown has plenty of events to choose from this weekend. All weekend, Watertown Children’s Theatre will present Cinderella. Fans of comedy can join the watch party for the finale of Taskmaster UK. This weekend looks hot, but the Watertown Running Club has a pair of runs before the mercury rises. On Sunday, the Watertown Library hosts children’s author Melissa Stewart.

WEEKEND FUN: New Beer Garden, Amelie Teen Edition, Devil Wears Prada 2, Half Off Sandwiches, Eco Fest

Spring has definitely sprung, and with that warmer weather is coming a new biergarten at Gore Place, that will be open only on weekends from now until October. They will serve beer and hard seltzers, but also non-alcoholic drinks. So it will be a lovely place to gather outside at the end of a workweek. Watertown Children’s Theater is putting on a show of “Amelie.” This is their teen edition, so I encourage you to take in this fun romantic comedy.

WEEKEND FUN: Family Yoga, Reptiles, Brunch, Sheep, Radio Dramas on Stage

It is school vacation week, so many young families may be out of town, but for those who remained, you may be looking for some fun things to do right here. Friday from 4-5 there is a reptile show at the library for families with children ages 3-11. Friday evening there is a performance at the Mosesian of the Post-Meridian Radio Players, an audio drama of a few funny short stories by P.G. Woodhouse. Take your older children to get some laughs in. Saturday or Sunday morning you could go out for brunch at Branch Line.

WEEKEND FUN: MusicFest, Theater, Yard Art, Screenless Project, Sensory Friendly Movie Screening

Let’s all start this weekend by going to the MusicFest on Friday evening. It’s the 13th annual gathering of Watertown musicians, both professional, adult and child performances. If you are not in a musical frame of mind, check out “The Mushroom Cure” at the Mosesian Center for the Arts. On Friday and Saturday evenings, this one-man show performed by Adam Strauss is about Michael Pollen’s exploration of psychedelics. It is going to be filmed live to be part of a future feature film.

WEEKEND FUN: Poetry Inspired by the Revolution, Farm to Gallery Exhibit, Karaoke, Healing Power of Art, Persian Dining

My weekend suggestions for this first week of April includes two exhibits to go see. The one at the Mosesian, Art and Healing is a mixed media show that will be there until May 1. Check out the mostly cardboard piece in the photo below. The library has a new exhibit of fiber art called Farm to Form, which is a collaboration between Gore Place and fibre artists. Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of America at the Mount Auburn Cemetery with a literary historian who will talk about how authors in the 1800s turned the American Revolution into our national legend.
