Successful Weekend for Watertown High School Teams

The Raiders basketball and ice hockey teams all enjoyed wins in their first games in the MIAA state tournament over the weekend.

Basketball

The boy’s basketball team rolled over Saugus, and almost doubled their opponents score in the 79-45 win at Watertown High School. The second seeded Raiders next face Bedford in the Div. 3 North Section semifinals. The game will be played Wednesday, March 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Woburn.

The top seeded girl’s basketball squad won easily over visiting Newburyport. Watertown won 56-31 in the Div. 2 North Section game, and will now play Hamilton-Wenham in the section semi on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Whittier.

If the Raiders win their next game both the boys and girls teams will play in the North Section finals at Tsongas Arena in Lowell on Saturday, March 8.

Ice Hockey

The fourth-seeded girl’s ice hockey team pulled out a 3-2 win over Andover in the Div. 1 girls hockey tournament. The team, which includes players from Watertown and Belmont, next will skate against Duxbury in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 5 at 5 p.m. at Stoneham.

The Raiders shut out Shawsheen in the boy’s Div. 3 North Section ice hockey tournament. The 2-0 win sends top-seeded Watertown to the section semifinals against Wayland on Thursday, March 6 at 6:10 p.m. at the Chelmsford Forum.

The section final for the boy’s hockey tournament will be played on Saturday, March 8 at Stoneham Arena. If the girls win they will play in the state semifinal on Sunday, March 9 at Stoneham Arena.
