The grand marshall of this year’s Watertown Memorial Day Parade served in the Marine Corps in World War II and served his town and state in his civilian life.

Paul C. Menton joined the Marines and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

When he returned home, spent his life serving his community. Menton was elected to be Watertown’s State Representative in the Legislature and then served as legal council to the State Legislature. He also served as a judge in the Massachusetts Courts.

Menton graduated from Suffolk Law School, and he also served on town boards and committees. Even today, at age 89, Menton volunteers for a group that advocate for affordable housing in Watertown.

In 2013, Menton was honored to have the corner/park at Greenough Boulevard and Grove Street named for him in recognition of his career. A sign at that intersection bears his name.

He has applied for one of the Honor Flights that take veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the World War II Memorial in the company of fellow WWII vets.
