OBIT: John Blickenstaff, Watertown Resident, Loved Hockey

John J. Blickenstaff, Jr., of Watertown, died suddenly on Feb. 4, 2015.

Known to his friends as “Blick,” John  grew up in Watertown and went to school in Watertown. He played basketball, football, and was a active member of Watertown youth hockey. He played for the Watertown traveling team for many years.

John loved the hockey sport and his teammates were his most enjoyable memories. John’s favorite past time was going to the gym and working out. In his later years, he touched many youths who were troubled, and worked with them in programs. He will be missed by many.

He was the beloved son of Nancy A. Blickenstaff of Maynard & John Blickenstaff, Sr of Stoneham, and the late John Fontana of Watertown. Devoted brother of Stephen “Jimmy” & Joseph DeLong both of Watertown, Tammy Ledger of New York and the late Rosalie Goldsmith. Dear nephew of Deborah J. Byrne of Waltham. Also cousin of Janine Parker of Maynard as well as many cousins, nieces & nephews & and his beloved girlfriend Joanne McKinnon of Maynard.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015 at 2 p.m. in the MacDonald Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, 270 Main St., Watertown.  A visitation hour will be held from 1-2 p.m. Relatives & friends kindly invited.
