The Watertown Recreation Department is holding sign ups for the men’s Summer Basketball Leagues and summer youth programs.

Men’s Basketball Leagues

The Watertown Recreation Department Men’s Basketball League begins on May 26 and teams are asked to sign up this week.

An informational meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. in the same location. This is a mandatory meeting to attend. In addition to some discussion of rules and regulations, the deposit must be provided.

The League will begin on Tuesday, May 26, 2015. The cost of the league is $1300 with an additional $100 forfeit fee that will be returned if there are no forfeits. This will bring the total fee to $1400. Payments are due by May 5.

The entry fee covers all costs for the league: This includes 15 regular season games plus playoffs, officials, scorers, timers and 15 reversible mesh game jerseys. If we owe your team money from last year, we will deduct it from this year’s fee.

There will be two leagues offered:

Papas Elite League: High Level Players – College Level Only – Need bigs as well as talented guards. Team must include 80 percent former or current college basketball players.

O’Brien-Jerahian Legends League: Summer League Veterans Only – Over 30 years old.

League Fee Time Table: Checks made out to the “Town of Watertown” with your team’s name on it.

Summer Park Program 2015

Come join the recreation park instructors for a summer filled of sports, games and activities. There will be a variety of sports offered such as wiffleball, kickball, soccer, baseball and badminton, as well as arts and crafts for those who need a break from the hot summer sun during the day. In addition to sports, games and arts and crafts, will also take various trips throughout the summer to Canobie Lake Park, Laser-Craze, Chunky’s Theater and Water Wizz just to name a few.

Who: Boys & Girls Grade K-12

When: Monday-Friday July 6-Aug. 21

Time: 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m. (No Staff over lunch hour 12:00 – 1:00pm)

Where: Victory Field, O’Connell Park, Bemis Park and Casey

Fee: Free

Youth Summer Tennis Lessons 2015

Who: Ages 6 to 17

When: July 6th to August 21, 2015

Time: 50 minute lessons from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Where: Mary Williams Shea Tennis Courts (Victory Field)

Fee: $150 for residents, $175 for non-residents

Description: Lessons are held daily from Monday through Friday for 50 minutes. Our lessons include forehand, backhand and overhead shots, serving and scoring. July 6 and July 7 are set aside for placing the students in their proper skills classes.

Class Schedules:

Ages 6 to 7 are 8:30 to 9:20 a.m. • Ages 8 to 10 are 9:30 to 10:20 am

Ages 11 to 13 are 10:30 to 11:20 a.m. • Ages 14 to 17 are 11:30 am to 12:20 pm

Registration is on a first come first serve basis, Max 25 Per Class

Pequossette Summer Program

The Watertown Recreation Department provides Pequossette Summer Program for children entering the first through eight grade this fall 2015.

The program consists of six individual weeks from July 6 through Aug. 14, 2015 at the Watertown Middle School at 68 Waverly Avenue in Watertown. The program will operate Monday through Friday from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm. We offer an early drop off from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and an extended day program from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Middle School and Moxley Playground which includes a large field space, playground area, basketball court, tennis court and a multi-purpose court afford the Recreation Department the opportunity to offer a wide range of activities to entertain the children. Basketball, softball, rag ball, kickball, baseball, soccer, lacrosse and street hockey are just some of the sport activities offered for the children. There is also a play area with swings, slides and other amenities to challenge the physical and imaginative skills of the children. The program will provide space for indoor activities, such as, assemblies, arts & crafts, drama, games, lunch, movies, music, talent shows, sports and more.

The children’s safety and welfare are always the top priority for our staff. The program will be under the direction of Director Mr. Robert Galante.
