WHS Sports: Lacrosse Teams Make Tournament, Track Record Broken

Two Watertown lacrosse teams will be hosting state tournament teams this week. 

The Raiders girls’ lacrosse squad earned the seventh seed in the East Section Div. 2 tournament with their record of 13-3-1. Watertown will host 10th seed Bishop Stang in a first round game on Monday, June 1 at 5 p.m. at Victory Field. The winner plays second seeded Dover-Sherborn.

The boys’ lacrosse team (12-3) got the fourth seed and got a first round bye. The Raiders will host a Central/East Section Div. 3 quarterfinal and face the winner of the game between fifth seed Groton-Dunstable and 12th seed Bellingham. The game will be held on Thursday, June 4 at 5 p.m. at Victory Field.

Triple Jump Record Broken

Watertown senior Brian Dallacosta made a jump of 42-feet-7-inches in the triple jump at the Middlesex League Championship Meet at Regis College. The jump set a new school record and got him third place in the event.

Senior Prosper Lubega placed fourth in the 400 Hurdles with a time of 59.63. Lubega also came in fourth in the High Jump with a leap of 5-feet-9-inches. Junior Amin Touri came in fifth in the 800 meters by running 2:00.57.

The girls track team also had some top performances at the Middlesex League meet. The Raiders won the 4 x 800 meter relay with a time of 9:44.58. Freshman Emily Koufos placed second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.80. Senior Katherine Tolman got second in the 400 meters with a time of 59.49 seconds.

Senior Keegan Duguay placed third in the 100 meters with at time of 16.45 seconds. Senior Tina Touri finished fourth in the Mile with a time of 5:37.32. Freshman Elizabeth Powderly got fourth in the Two Mile with a time of 12:03.07.
