After an historic 2015 season, the Watertown High School field hockey team will embark on its quest for another history making season on Wednesday.
In 2015, Watertown broke the national record for most games unbeaten and won yet another state championship, and this year the Raiders have their eyes on the team’s eighth straight title and the national record winning streak.
Coach Eileen Donahue and the Raiders have won 100 straight, and seek to top the record of 106 straight wins by Oklahoma City’s Casady School. That makes the home game against Stoneham on Sept. 20 the streak tying game and the game at Wilmington on Sept. 22 the record setter.
The season starts with a home game against an unfamiliar foe, Tantasqua, a Div. 1 team that plays in Central Mass. Next up is the first Middlesex League game at home against Arlington.
Watertown hosts Belmont in an early game on Columbus Day – Oct. 10, at 9 a.m. The final regular season home game is Thursday, Oct. 20 against Wilmington.
The State Tournament begins Nov. 2, with the State Semifinals taking place on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and the state final scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 19 at WPI.
