On Sunday, June 14, children of all ages are invited to the Watertown Free Public Library (WFPL) to kick off summer reading and get a book signed by a famous author! Melissa Stewart is the award-winning author of more than 200 science books for children. She has always been fascinated by the natural world and is passionate about sharing its beauty and wonder.
Also this summer, children, teens, and grownups are invited to complete a garden-inspired summer reading game and earn prizes along the way!
Summer Reading Kickoff with Melissa Stewart
Sunday, June 14 | 2 PM | All Ages | at WFPL | Want to inspire a young reader in your life? The Library is kicking off summer with a special book-signing event with award-winning children’s author Melissa Stewart. Stewart has written everything from board books for preschoolers to resources guides for educators. (You may recognize her picture books “Sharks in Kansas,” “Whale Fall,” “Monarch and Mourning Cloak,” or “Meet the Mini-Mammals.”) While gathering information for books, Stewart has explored tropical rain forests in Costa Rica, gone on safari in East Africa, and swum with sea lions in the Galapagos Islands. She can’t imagine any job she’d rather have.
Summer Reading Game for All Ages: Cultivate Curiosity
June 14 – August 31 | All Ages | Starting June 14, Children, teens, and adults invited to pick up a Cultivate Curiosity game at the Library and go on a reading adventure inspired by nature! As you read, collect stickers for your “garden” and earn prizes along the way. Play solo, or play as a team.
