The Revels Salon Series presents Franco-American singer and tradition bearer Josée Vachon and Revels artistic director Patrick Swanson at the historic Commander’s Mansion in Watertown.
Eclectic in content and social in nature, the Revels Salon Series offers a place for guests to gather, enjoy wine and cheese, and hear talks about various subjects relating to Revels and our upcoming productions. Salons are held once a month on Friday evenings in October and November at the historic Commander’s Mansion in Watertown. This year’s Salons focus on Acadian and Cajun music and culture as we prepare for this year’s Christmas Revels opening Dec. 9 at Sanders Theatre.
Salons include a wine and cheese reception from 7:30-8 p.m. followed by a one-hour interactive presentation from 8-9 p.m. The evening ends with more libations and conversation.

“Vive la Compagnie!” with Josée Vachon
Enjoy a warm and entertaining evening with Revels tradition-bearer, Josée Vachon as we sing some of her favorite songs from French Canada. Born in Québec and raised in Maine, Josée Vachon has been sharing her Franco-American upbringing for over 25 years through traditional and contemporary folksongs from Québec and Acadia and through her own compositions. Josée will be featured in the upcoming Acadian-Cajun Christmas Revels at Sanders Theatre. She has been a valuable source of raw material both for our latest CD, Valse de Noel: An Acadian-Cajun Christmas Revels, and for the show itself. Come and get an inside peek at the musical culture of our neighbors to the north!

The Great Upheaval with Patrick Swanson
Join us for a fascinating evening with Revels Artistic Director Paddy Swanson who will share some of the research that went into this year’s Acadian-Cajun Christmas Revels. He will trace the origins of Le Grand Dérangement – the expulsion of the Acadians from Nova Scotia and their subsequent migrations that eventually led to Louisiana where the Acadian culture morphed into Cajun. Richly illustrated with images and music this is a primer for Revels goers who like a deeper experience of the cultures that we celebrate.
The Commander’s Mansion is located at 440 Talcott Ave., Watertown. Free parking available onsite!
Tickets are $25/Salon admission (includes reception).
