ALERT: Watertown Police Seeks Help Finding a Man Reported Missing

The Watertown Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing 20-year-old man from Watertown. Devon Casseus was reported missing yesterday, December 6, 2016, by his family. He was last seen at 5 a.m. at his work place, Dunkin Donuts, 25 Church St. Belmont (Waverley Square). Devon may be in need of medical attention.

Crowd Gathers in Watertown to Mark 75th Anniversary of Attacks on Pearl Harbor

Dozens of Watertown’s veterans gathered on the Watertown Square Dock for a somber ceremony to mark one of the most infamous days in American history – the attacks on Pearl Harbor. Across the nation at noon, wreaths were laid in honor of the 75th anniversary of Japan’s sneak attack on the United States’ Pacific Fleet in Hawaii. In Watertown, the wreath was tossed into the Charles River with the veterans and dozens of others watching. The town has a connection to that tragic Sunday morning, said Veteran’s Officer Mark Comeiro. “At about 8 a.m. Japanese planes filled the skies over Pearl Harbor.

Watertown’s Superintendent Invites Residents to Have Coffee With Him

sInterim Superintendent John Brackett announced he will host his first Coffee with the Superintendent on Dec. 14 to meet with parents and residents. The coffees provide an opportunity for parents, resident and others to talk to Bracket about their concerns and questions about the Watertown Public Schools. He will host two session on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. Both will occur in Room 101 on the ground floor of the Phillips Building, 30 Common St., Watertown.

After a Delay, School Committee Adopts Goals for Watertown Schools

After months of contemplation and delays due to changes in the district, the School Committee adopted the district’s Goals and Priorities at Monday night’s School Committee meeting. The Watertown Public School’s three strategic goals are: Support High Academic Achievement, Foster the Capacity for Life-Long Learning and Promote Local and Global Citizenship. The goals normally come out early in the school year, but School Committee Chairman John Portz said there have been some delays this year. “The process started in August. It started as goals for the superintendent, but then we we had a transition,” Portz said, referring to Jean Fitzgerald’s sudden retirement in October.

Find Out About the ‘Road Diet’ Proposed for Mt. Auburn Street

On Thursday, Dec. 8, the Department of Public Works will discuss proposed changes to Mt. Auburn Street, including the Road Diet. 

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. at the Watertown Free Public Library, 123 Main St., in Watertown, and will focus on the stretch between Patten Street and School Street. In the meeting announcement, the DPW said the project will information on how:

The proposed “road diet” will enhance bicycle and pedestrian safety, while also maintaining smooth vehicular flow on Mount Auburn Street. Upgrades at the Irving Street, Common Street, Walnut Street signalized intersections will accommodate new pedestrian and bicycle features.

Watertown Church Hosts ‘Blue Christmas’ Service for Those Not So Jolly

The Church of the Good Shepherd announced it will host Blue Christmas, A Service of Hope and Healing on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.

This interfaith gathering is particularly for those who are lonely, down, or feel the weight of loss during the holiday season. We welcome all people who want to stand together in honesty at a time when the culture presses us to be “jolly.” A light reception follows. All are welcome.

Watertown Library Kicks off Winter Concerts with Singer, Storyteller, Musician

This year marks the Watertown Free Public Library’s fifth year hosting free concerts featuring a variety of musical styles performed by talented area artists, the library announced. Performances will be on the second Sunday of the month from December-March. All concerts are free and open to the public. The series kicks off with popular singer and harpist Kate Chadbourne, this Sunday, December 11 at 2 p.m. in the Watertown Savings Bank Room at the library. Kate Chadbourne is a singer, storyteller, and poet whose performances combine traditional tales with music for voice, harp, flutes, and piano.
