School Committee Wants to Hear from Public About Hiring Next Superintendent

As the search begins for Watertown’s next Superintendent, the School Committee wants to hear from parents and community members about what they want to see in the next leader of the town’s schools. 

The Watertown Public Schools sent out the following announcement:

The Watertown School Committee is interested in getting feedback on the superintendent search process. There are several ways to participate, including live focus groups for the community scheduled at the following dates and times:

Tuesday, January 10, 2017: 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m.

Wednesday, January 11, 2017: 4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m.

Thursday, January 12, 2017: 7:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.

The focus groups will take place in the Innovation Lab, Third Floor, Phillips Building, 30 Common St., Watertown. In addition, you can go to the following link and participate in an on-line survey that includes ample space for your open responses. That link is:   https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WPS2017

Watertown Police Chief Lifts Winter Parking Ban for Holidays

Watertown –

With the Holidays fast approaching, the Watertown Police Department recognizes the need for additional overnight parking to accommodate visiting family members and friends. Chief of Police Michael P. Lawn wishes to announce that effective December 23, 2016 officers will temporarily stop enforcing the All Night Parking Ban – barring any snowfall that would require plowing or sanding. Should there be a snow event please refer to the town website for available off-street parking locations. Chief Lawn still encourages all homeowners to use available off street parking during the overnight hours. Enforcement of the All Night Parking ban will resume on January 3, 2017.

Watertown Sisters Named Globe All-Scholastics, Elder is Player of the Year

A pair of Watertown sisters made the Boston Globe’s 2016 All-Scholastic Field Hockey team, and one was named the top player in Div. 2. Senior Kourtney Kennedy and junior Jonna Kennedy both made the Globe’s list of best field hockey players, and Kourtney received the Div. 2 Player of the Year honor for the second year in a row. Kourtney, who will play field hockey for UConn next year, never lost a high school game and was part of four straight state championships with the Raiders.

Which Scenes Shot in Watertown Made it Into ‘Patriots Day, What Stood in For the Town

Oscar-winning actor J.K. Simmons, center, speaks with Connie Pugliese during a break from filming in her home. The actor is portraying her husband Jeff, a Watertown Police sergeant in the film “Patriots Day.” Just like the real-life events of the Boston Marathon Bombing, Watertown features prominently in the movie “Patriots Day,” well sometimes it is the town, and others other locations played the part. Filmmakers spent several days in Watertown last spring shooting scenes at the former Watertown Police Station, the Dunkin’ Donuts on Main Street, Main Street Mobile, the area near Greg’s Restaurant and the home of Watertown Police Sgt. Jeff Pugliese.
