A Funeral Service will be celebrated for Shirley B. (Hanson) Urquhart on March 3, 2017 in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, Watertown at 11 a.m.

Shirley was a daughter of the late Harry & Bertha (Lowe) Hanson. She passed away on February 28, 2017 surrounded by her family after a brief period of declining health. She was 96.

Shirley was a life-long resident of Lexington. She graduated from Lexington High School, class of 1938. After graduating high school, she went on to receive her License Practical Nursing degree from Copp Hospital in Cambridge.

For many years, Shirley worked at the maternity ward at the former Symmes Hospital in Arlington. Later, after staying home to raise her children, she returned to work for local pediatricians.

In 1949, she married her late husband Bill. Shirley was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington for over 60 years. She served as a Deaconess, a Sunday school teacher and long time member of the Carrillon Club and with Bill, they enjoyed years in the Couples Club.

Shirley was an avid reader, loved to garden and vacation in Wells, Maine. In her youth, she was a good tennis player and loved skating and skiing. Sunday family dinners were a must for her; she was a great cook. The Burlington Mall was built for Shirley, shopping, shopping and more shopping. Her greatest joy was her three grandchildren.

She was the beloved wife of the late William G. Devoted mother of William H. & his wife Margaret of Watertown and Lorna U. Higgins & her husband Ronald of Arlington. Loving grandmother of Katherine D., Andrew J. & his wife Krista and Christina E. Garabedian & her husband Paul all of Watertown. Dear sister of Claire Parks of Nashua, N.H. Also loved by many nieces & nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held in the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, 270 Main St. (rt. 20) Watertown on March 3, 2017 at 11:00 am. Interment Westview Cemetery, Lexington. Relatives & friends kindly invited.

Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8 pm.
