The Watertown High School football team picked up where it finished last season – with a victory.

The Raiders defeated Arlington Catholic 50-28 in its non-league home opener on Friday night at Victory Field.

This year, Watertown will be lead by junior quarterback Nick McDermott, and the team showed offensive firepower with more than 500 yards on the night. McDermott had 187 yards and threw two touchdowns.

One of his main targets was senior wide receiver John Korte, who caught both touchdowns and had 163 yards on six receptions.

The Raiders hit the road for two straight games before hosting Burlington on Sept. 28. The home schedule also includes Wilmington and Belmont on Thanksgiving, with possible MIAA playoff games before the rivalry game.
