Street Closured Planned for Wake and Funeral for Watertown Fire Chief

Road will be closed on the morning of Nov. 10 for the funeral for Watertown Fire Chief Mario Orangio.

In preparation for services for Watertown Fire Chief Mario Orangio, who died on Monday night, the Watertown Fire Department announced some street closures in Watertown Square on Thursday and Friday.

The Police Department sent out the following announcement”:

As we prepare for Fire Chief Mario Orangio’s Funeral, please be advised of the following traffic pattern changes for Thursday and Friday. Most importantly, the area of Main Street surrounding St. Patrick’s Church will be closed on Friday between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., seek alternate routes. See below for more details.

Thursday 11/09/17 – Wake

The wake will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Church (at Chestnut and Main Streets) Green Street will not be accessible from Main Street as it will be reserved for parking at the wake. Those wishing to attend may access Green Street and Chestnut Street from Pleasant Street.

Friday 11/10/17 – Funeral (See Map)

The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church. Main St will be shut down from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. from Cross Street in Watertown Square to Howard Street by Dunkin Donuts.

Main Street traffic can divert Southbound to Pleasant Street or Northbound to Bemis Street and Orchard Street. Southbound Waverley Avenue traffic can divert onto Bemis Street to Lexington Street to access Westbound Main Street travel. Waverley Avenue traffic may also take Orchard Street to Church Street or Common Street to access the Square for Eastbound travel or Southbound access to Mass. Pike. Southbound travel on Whites Avenue to Main Street will also be restricted.

There may be additional closures on surrounding streets if pedestrian volume becomes greater than expected, so plan accordingly.
