Watertown native and Northeastern hockey player Lauren Kelly will play pro hockey with the Boston Pride of the NWHL.

Watertown native and Northeastern graduate Lauren Kelly is going pro. The defender signed to play for the Boston Pride of the National Women’s Hockey League (NWHL).

Kelly completed a successful career at Northeastern this spring, scoring 25 goals and adding 39 assists in 140 career games. In the 2017-18 season, she led all defenders in NCAA Div. I women’s hockey with eight power play goals.

In a piece published on the NWHL’s website, Kelly said: “I am wicked excited to be joining the team next year. I have been watching the Pride and NWHL since the beginning in 2015 and have been anxiously waiting for my chance. I feel blessed to be given this amazing opportunity.”

During her senior season with the Huskies, the team won the Hockey East tournament and gained a berth into the NCAA tournament. Kelly was named a WHEA Second-Team All-Star and WHEA All-Tournament teams. She also garnered the honor of being named a New England Hockey Writers’ Division I All-Star.

The NWHL enters its fourth season this fall. The Pride won the inaugural Isobel Cup in 2016.

The Boston Pride plays their home games at Warrior Arena, the Boston Bruin’s practice rink in Allston, and their first home game is on Oct. 13, 2018. The NWHL expands to five teams this season, with the addition of the Minnesota Whitecaps to the founding four teams: Boston, Connecticut Whale, Metropolitan Riveters (New York area) and the Buffalo Beauts.
