Watertown’s new Veterans’ Services Officer will be a familiar face to many.
Gina M. Rada has been appointed to the position of Veterans’ Services Officer, Town Manager Michael Driscoll announced this week. She succeeds Mark Comeiro, who left for a similar position in Andover.
As Veterans’ Services Officer, Rada will be responsible for the oversight of services to Watertown veterans and their dependents.
A retired member of the Air Force, Rada previously served as Watertown’s Veterans’ Services Officer from April 2012 to December 2014. She then worked as the District Director of Veterans’ Services for Bedford and Lexington.
Rada served six years in the U.S. Air Force as an Aerospace Medical Service Technician. While she was stationed at Hanscom Air Force Base, Rada volunteered for a year-long deployment to Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. She worked on a Provincial Reconstruction Team in the Nangarhar Province. She serves as the senior medic responsible for mass casualty preparation and briefings, establishment of MEDEVAC landing zones and CASEVAC standard operation procedures.
After returning, she completed the Airman Leadership School, and was awarded the John L. Levitow Award for displaying the highest degree of excellence as a leader and a scholar.
Rada earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in counseling from Lesley University in February 2019. She also completed 35 hours Veterans Mediation training at Quabbin Mediation and received a certificate in Volunteer Mediation with a Veterans’ Specialization.
