The following information was provided by the Watertown Democrats:

Registered Democrats in Watertown will be holding a caucus at the Watertown Savings Bank Room of the Watertown Free Public Library on Sunday, May 19 at 2:00 p.m. to elect 25 delegates and five alternates to the 2019 Massachusetts Democratic Convention.

This year’s state convention will be held Sept. 14 at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, where thousands of Democrats from across the state will come together to discuss Party business and celebrate our successes as we prepare for upcoming elections.

“This year’s convention will be unique as we look to strengthen the party for 2020 and the future. The Watertown caucus is a great opportunity for people who want to get involved in the process,” said Watertown Democratic Town Committee Chair Steve Owens.

The caucus is open to all registered and pre-registered Democrats in Watertown. Pre-registered Democrats who will be 16 by May 11, 2019 will be allowed to participate and run as a delegate or alternate. Voter registration will be available at the caucus. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women, and all ballots will be written and secret.

Priority will be given to delegate candidates who are present at the caucus. Those wishing to run for delegate who cannot attend the caucus may request to be nominated in absentia by notifying the town committee chair before May 18t.

In the spirit of inclusion, youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be add-on delegates, either at the caucus or online at www.massdems.org.

The Watertown Democratic Town Committee normally meets at 7:00 PM on the last Thursday of each month. Our next meeting will be on May 30, in the Watertown Savings Bank Room of the Watertown Free Public Library where we will be hosting local author Ben Bradlee Jr. who will be discussing his recent book The Forgotten: How the People of One Pennsylvania County Elected Donald Trump and Changed America.
