Police Log: Man Caught with Meth & Pills, Driver Unsuccessfully Tries to Evade Officers

June 18, 7:43 a.m.: A man came into the Police Station because he believed he had a warrant for his arrest. Officers confirmed that the man was wanted on a warrant from Waltham District Court from 1992. The 51-year-old man from West Valley, Utah, was arrested on a total of four warrants from Waltham District Court, Cambridge District Court and Stoughton District Court. June 20, 8:42 a.m.: Police responded to a call for a man who was trespassing at the Watertown Housing building on Waverley Avenue.

PUSHING THE ENVELOPE: BRIEF HISTORY OF THE U.S. POSTAL SYSTEMHenry Lukas, Education Director, Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History, will discuss the history of the U.S. Postal system by viewing stamps issued over the years. Hear the many ways mail has been delivered and the unusual items transported, including baby chicks, the Hope Diamond, and a little girl who mailed herself to her grandmother. Learn about very rare stamps, stamps that have caused controversies and stamps with unusual topics. Find out what stamps are being issued this year and the Post Office’s rules for deciding who or what goes on a stamp. WHEN: Wednesday, July 17 TIME: 10:00 A.M. Pre-registration is required.

Watertown Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect Who has a Prior Record

Joseph Boyda, 44, of Worcester, was arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Watertown. Watertown Police arrested a Worcester man for the armed robbery of a hair salon on Wednesday. Police located Joseph Boyda, 44, and place him under arrest on Thursday for armed robbery while masked. He was arraigned in Waltham District Court on Friday, said Watertown Police Lt. James O’Connor. On Wednesday at about 7 p.m., Boyda allegedly robbed the Behind the Hair salon on Main Street in Watertown while wearing a mask and sunglasses.

Temporary Change to Access Road to Arsenal Park, Harvard Vanguard

The blue lines show the temporary traffic flow through Arsenal Yards to Arsenal Park and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates. Arsenal Park is in the upper right corner of the illustration. The following information was provided by Boylston Properties:

Starting July 1, Boylston Properties, the developer of Arsenal Yards, will make temporary changes to the access road for Arsenal Park and Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA) to accommodate the next construction phase. Park Drive, the current one-way road accessing Arsenal Park and HVMA, will remain open during the 2-week construction period to build the temporary access road. The temporary road will provide 2-way traffic access with a right-in entrance from Arsenal Street and exiting via a right turn only onto Arsenal Street.

Watertown Boys & Girls Club will host their annual golf tournament on Monday, August 12, 2019 at the Oakley Country Club. The tournament honors one of the Club’s original founding members, Stephen Mugar. His children and grandchildren generously perpetuate his legacy by sponsoring this annual event.
