The family of a young girl who died suddenly while at a local daycare center has donated a plaque that will be part of a memorial in a Watertown Park.

Lia James Madigan was four months old when she passed away suddenly in September 2018. Last week, the Town Council accepted the donation, and read a proclamation in Lia’s memory.

Her parents, Maile and Dan, donated a plaque to go next to a tree that has already been planted in Casey Park near the playground and baseball field.

“In Lia’s memory, a beautiful Summer Charm Lilac Tree was planted in Casey Park that will bloom yearly in springtime,” the proclamation reads.

The plaque will read:

In Loving Memory of Lia James Madigan
April 17, 2018 – September 13, 2018
Daughter, Sister, Best Friend

A ceremony for the dedication of the plaque will be held at a later date.

The daycare where Lia passed away, Strawberry Child Care, was located in the former school on Watertown Street, next to Casey Park. State officials shut down the daycare center after it was found they did not take appropriate actions in the incident.
