The following information was provided by Watertown Walks for Peace:
This year Watertown residents will again participate in the annual Mothers’ Day Walk for Peace, which will be held virtually, with all proceeds to benefit families and communities affected by gun violence. The event is sponsored by the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in Dorchester, a center for healing and teaching, supporting those who have lost loved ones to homicide, and working with young people to teach the ways of peace.
In the past, Walkers for Peace have trekked from Dorchester to Boston City Hall to declare their support for ending gun violence. Watertown citizens have participated in this effort for many years, contributing thousands of dollars to the Peace Institute. This year the event will be held virtually, because of the Covid19 pandemic. Please make your online donation at https://lbdpeace.z2systems.com/watertown2020.
And please join the virtual walk on Sunday, May 10, 9:00 – 9:45 AM at www.mothersdaywalk4peace.org.
The Peace Institute was founded 23 years ago by Chaplain Clementina Chery, the mother of Louis D. Brown, who was killed by random gunfire in 1993. It is a healing center and a training and educational resource for the city of Boston and surrounding communities. The Institute has earned a reputation as an innovative leader for peace.
Today the need for this work is greater than ever. Our goal is to raise $2020.00 from Watertown participants, and WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION!
This link (https://lbdpeace.z2systems.com/watertown2020) will take you directly to the Watertown page, where your donation will be credited to Watertown Walks for Peace. Your contribution is especially important this year, as the stress of the pandemic may increase violence on the street. Your generous gift may help to save the life of a young person at risk, and will enable the Peace Institute to continue its vital work.
Watertown Walks for Peace is sponsored by World in Watertown, First Parish of Watertown, and Watertown Citizens for Peace, Justice, and the Environment.
