The following information was provided by the Watertown Library:

Although we are a long way from normal, there are still so many ways to enjoy and access the Library right now. If you prefer scouring the shelves, the Library is open for browsing and checkouts. If you’d rather use curbside service, you can now schedule your pickup time online. Of course, our eLibrary is open 24/7.

And we hope to see you on Zoom! This month, Emily will be making ice cream sandwiches and sponge cake during Children’s Baking. On September 29, Hatch is calling makers together for a night of show and tell inspiration.

Children’s Summer Reading (Keep Going!)

Children’s Baking: Ice Cream Sandwiches (via Zoom)
Wednesday, 9/9 | 12 PM | This week is a TWO recipe bake. First, we’ll make a no-churn vanilla ice cream. Then, we’ll make chocolate sugar cookies.

September 28 – December 21 | This fall, we’re offering free “take and make” project materials for students in grades 6-12, available for pickup at WFPL. We’re releasing new projects every other Monday. Click the link to sign up for a bag.

The Teen department still has paperback copies of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, the One School, One Book selection for Watertown Middle School. Come in to pick up a copy or arrange for curbside pickup.

Thursday, 9/17 | 7 PM | In this fiery, one-woman performance by History At Play™, LLC, Judith Kalaora becomes Lucy Stone: A fierce abolitionist, women’s rights activist, and the first woman from Massachusetts to earn a college degree.

After Suffrage with Author Barbara Berenson (Zoom Talk)
Thursday, 10/1 | 7 PM | How have women fared politically and legally over the past century? Historian and author Barbara Berenson will focus on what changed after the passage of the 19th amendment, where we are now, and the century-long (and still ongoing) campaign for the Equal Rights Amendment.

Monday, 9/14 | 5 PM | Design your own contactless door opener! This virtual workshop will take you through the basics of creating a file for the Hatch laser cutter using Inkscape. 

Sweet Paper Treats (Zoom Demo)
Monday, 9/21 | 5 PM | Learn how to make some tasty miniatures using paper cutting and sculpting techniques! All you’ll need is glue, scissors, craft knives, and colored paper. 

Customized Masks with Heat Transfer Vinyl (Zoom Demo)
Monday, 9/28 | 5 PM | Learn how to use Silhouette Studio to create a custom design that can be adhered to any cotton or cotton-blend fabric. Mask materials are provided.

Show and Tell (via Zoom)
Monday, 9/29 | 7 PM | What have you been making since the pandemic hit? Everyone will get a chance to share and a chance to get inspired. Audience members welcome.
